| Raptor servo help Hello Folks, I'm getting back into helis after a long time of looking at my little Kalt Whisper hanging in the shop.(Gee I wounder where He got his user name?) anywhy the little electric heli is probably older than most of you out there in this hobby today. Ive been building and flying airplanes for about 50 years and built helis back about 20 years ago when they first came out and did not fly well at all, I built the Whisper back then and hopped it off the ground alot but never really learned to fly it, so it got hung up in the barn but not forgot. Then a year ago I got a G3 Sim. and learned how to fly helis. and have been flying the batteries out of the Whisper. For an old bird it flies nice. Now to the piont I have built a Raptor 60 with an os 70 for engine and am trying to figure out what servos to put in it. I have been looking at hitech 625's for every thing but the tail, I am still a beginner and figure it will be a long time before I am good enough to do any close to 3d so I am not sure if a 625 is good enough for the tail or do I need a digital? I have been using a futaba 351 gyro on my Whisper and it works great even though it was made for airplanes. I am also thinking about using it on my raptor insted of a futaba 401.(only because I have it and Gyros are expensive) I am using it in the rate mode only because that feels more natural then heading hold. I keep changing all the helis in my G3 to rate because it feels easier to fly for me. Anyway I am open to all the help I can get. I live in the country with lots of open fields so I fly out of my back yard so I have no help around, Im on my own. Thanks |

| Re: Raptor servo help I have the 401 in my new hawk pro and I love it I had to trim a bit but didn't have to do anything with the gyro. Wish I so love because I hate messing with the gyro I had to on some of my mini electric ones. But the guy at hobby shop setup my heli but he never test flown it so I doubt he didn't anything to gyro but it works great. |

| Re: Raptor servo help Hi there i live in the uk and fly only raptors and planes. my 90 size raptor is the same size as your 70 one but with a bigger boom and blades. you will need good digitals on the main controls and even on the throttle if you use a rev limiter of some kind. the 401 with its matched servo is good to go with but if you have the money a 601 with its servo is even better. i use 9252 futaba servos but they are out of date now the new ones are 9255 s which are some what cheaper. i have a futaba 3010 on the pitch as this have loads of holding power you will fing with a 70 size you might need heading hold because the power of the engine will make the tail spin back and forth when you throttle up and down. i never take mine out of t.hold and it fly great, i can race around beating most of the planes in my club for speed. have fun with your 70 raptor be safe they are powerful |

| Thank you for your reply. My Raptor has been finished since October 06 when fate struck hard. It was a nice friday afternoon and I had a choice to run my newley finished Rapter or brake in an OS 120 FS. that was to go in my newly finished 1/5 scale YMF WACO. I chose to continue the brake in of the OS. I had a test stand that I had clamped to a picinic table in my backyard. I checked the clamps and they seemed tight, so I grabbed a chair and sat down behind the engine so I could get to the needle valvue without reaching over the prop. So I started the engine and it roared to life and started to blow my photo tac off the table. So I turned to grab the tac and secure it, then turned back to see that the engine mount had come loose on one side and was rotating around toward me on the other clamp. By the time I could but up my hands infront of me and push back in the chair the prop struck my lelt hand and wrist. It cut five tenons, nerves, the main artery and removed most of my thumb mussel and two boned. I spent four hours in surgery. It's been six months now and the Doctor say's I might get 50% use back in a year or so. I've been trying to use my G3 sim. and it don't look good for heli flying soon. I do thank you for your help. | Re: Raptor servo help sorry to hear of your demise i had a similar thing happen to me a long time ago but the prop broke my middle finger right hand. i had had a helicopter as a first model and after six months of not being able to do much more than hover, i planed to put the engine into a plane and learn to fly that. I too was running up the engine on a stand in the garden but mine did not move, i forgot i had a prop there at all being used to hellies and put my fingers through the prop from the back while adjusting the needle. i lost alot of blood and finger was broken at the first joint, but i healed and only lost a small amount of movement. I would be very sad to have to stop flying now and really feel for your loss of your hobby.keep trying, the movement may come back enough to fly again. |
