Re: Main motor keeps burning Now thats a subject....memory effect. I hear so much about this...its like one type doesnt suffer and the other does and then its vice versa...WTF? LiPO is the way to go but nimh is ok in that it wont suffer memory effect at all...this seems to affect radio batteries and so forth where the demands, though constant, are nice and steady and quite low. Thats where I would be wary. Whatever you choose make sure to land that heli once it loses power...you will ruin any battery by persistant abuse...and end up with a fire if you are not careful. I didnt realise the heli you have has a tail motor/rotor...what a rubbish setup that is. I am not trying to annoy you...but they are a rubbish idea. What the heck...have your fun with it...but dont spend too much cash on it. The main motor upgrade is the most I would spend on it. Rob

Re: Main motor keeps burning Rob, I'll upgrade to the brushless motor. How much I spend on it in the future will depend on what next goes wrong. If I get satisfactory life span from the motor and nothing else goes wrong in a hurry, then I'm OK. Otherwise I'll stick with my E sky belt CP. Which incidentally is down right now. I crashed it. I did some research on different types of batteries on the Internet. Yes, the Li-Po is the way to go, but care must be taken while recharging. It's safer to use the charger that came with the battery. The Ni-Cad, the Ni-Mn and the Ni-Mh, suffer from memory effect (which is actually voltage depression)(what ever that means) as well as a high, self discharge rate. The memory effect however, hardly affect the NiMh while it is non existent in the Li-Po battery. That being said, it is worth noting that manufacturers are working on and have managed to minimize memory effects on batteries. Ken.

Re: Main motor keeps burning Ok, yes its no good spending lots of money on things...RC helis are ok if they are cheap to repair and so on...I figure that you will spend about one third the first cost of the heli..in an average crash...if there is such a thing ![]() Whats important is getting that airtime...thats the idea anyway. Just make sure to check over the heli for any loose nuts and bolts...very important. Rob

Re: Main motor keeps burning Rob, I've got two Heli's. One an Eagle 50 (motor burning) and the other an E sky belt CP. Between the both of them, I haven't got a total of 5 Min's air time. The Belt CP looks more promising though, even though right out of the box, 2 of the servos were faulty. Lucky I checked them out first. I believe that one was a RTC (ready to crash) unit, and not the RTF that I ordered. The other one, I checked out everything too. With learner's gear on (4 table tennis balls), I tried out the controls on the ground first with the blades spinning. Lean to the left, OK. Lean to the right, OK. Tilt back, OK. Tilt forward, OK. Switch the tail slightly to the left, then right, OK. I'm now ready to lift off and hover. I raised the speed of the blades a little at a time, nothing happens, until that last gradual increase. She took off like a bullet. Needless to say, I panicked, but quickly recovered, but it was too late. Crash. Since then I've been having these burning issues (the motor that is). Ken

| Re: Main motor keeps burning On the belt cp you need to adjust the pitch rate. I don't know which knob that is on the Esky radio. Check your manuel for that and you should be fine. I had that same thing happen with a friends JR30 nitro! You talk about an adrenenlin rush! Somehow I managed to land it but the pitch was basically on-off not gradual.

I would put my money into the Belt and forget the other heli unless you feel that you need a challenge!

Re: Main motor keeps burning BABY HUEY, It was the Eagle 50 that gave me that 'surprise' take off. I believe it was you who told me that the swash plate was sticking on the main shaft. I lubricated it, but did not really get the chance to try it out properly. OK, after that first crash when it took off like a bullet. I finally got the replacement parts. I took it to the Savannah to give it a try. I had the blades spinning, not too anxious to attempt a lift off. Rain then decided to fall. I pulled down the throttle, snatched the Heli and ran for my truck. My hand accidentally pushed the control up, but the blades had no room in which to spin, as a result the motor burnt. My reflexes at that time was horrible to say the least, because I did not immediately realized what caused the motor to start up. In my haste I neglected to unplug the battery. From ever since the replacement motors kept burning after a relatively short while of spinning the blades. I keep the Heli restrained while doing this so that it won't leave the ground. About the tail motor. I guess I've been lucky so far. I saw heat sinks for main & tail motors. Not for the Eagle 50, but I believe it could work. However I'm going for the brushless main motor and maybe the heat sink for the tail motor. I'm just trying to get my money's worth from the Eagle 50.

Re: Main motor keeps burning It is tough, small electric helis are a handful to fly at the best of times...and trying to sort out issues with setting up and so on when the instructions are not helpful...or non existent? thats even worse. Everyone likes a bargain, and we are in it for the enjoyment of the hobby...getting that bargain heli that delivers good performance is a gamble. I have heard good things about the Belt CP, but make sure parts are easy to get...thats the biggest pain...no parts and no backup. If you have the cash, and the time and the space I would say go Nitro...I started off like this with a Kyosho Nexus 30...got me 16 hrs flight time on that baby!! no bull sh6t...it was a good heli...I broke it pushing my luck too far and it was going to cost too much to fix. Bang for buck I would say get a Nitro, they are more stable and if they are trimmed well they will behave. And you arent limited by battery...if the flight pack battery is a good capacity one...say 2000mah you can get a LOT of flying done...all you need is the fuel. Its a catch 22...you need airtime to get experience...but you need experience to check that heli out before trying to fly it. If you can get to a club it would be worth your while...if the members are good they will show interest in your plight and help sort things out. Do you have a simulator at all? its worth it. Rob
