2.4 ghz for sure!!! the issues with electric helis plus interference with the mhz stuff are legion.

I stuffed my Trex into the deck because of this...and wont fly it again till I get a 2.4 ghz radio.

The Trex is an amazing heli otherwise, copes well with a strong breeze too...it outpunches just about any other small heli...of course there are some other makes but you will pay more for them.

I agree about the gyro thing...the basic gyro is still better than what was about yrs ago.

The Belt one will do the job, maybe a better servo will help but I wouldnt go too mad on spending....though do buy the 2.4 gig radio...and fit it. The setting up will be educational for you...just make sure to DISCONNECT the main motor wires ok?. so when you go through the setup you dont start the thing up and ruin things

I'm up to four in my Futaba. It's a regular 72 mhz so my Rxs are cheaper than the 2.4 Ghz ones like Spectrum's but if you fly around other R/Cers the 2.4 is better.

I assume that Rx is the receiver.

If I want to stay in the air for any length of time (without crashes), I guess that's another expensive piece of equipment that I'll have to buy.
It'll pay for itself in the long run.

If you have other flyers about or any potential radio interference then the 2.4 ghz is the best choice...nothing is worse than getting 'shot' down by someone who could be close by and using the same channel as you...this is a real risk with the mhz stuff.

I use 35 mhz here where I live, and touch wood I have no issues at all...but I wouls like to upgrade to 2.4 ghz for the safety aspect. If and when I get a radio I will go for the Futaba T7 version, I am used to its layout.

Getting that first radio is important as it will last a good many years. Most computer radios are very flexible in setting up...with many many useful features.

Definately the 2.4 ghz then.
And Judging from what you say about the Trex, I'll go that way too, when I upgrade to a Nitro. It's very windy around here.

Yeah, the Falklands is always pretty breezy as well....the Mini Predator/Falcon 3D I have can only just cope with a breeze....the Trex 450 electric thrives well but to be honest I am not convinced of the battery thing...since getting my Sceadu flying this is the ideal 'small heli' for me where flying the gasser might attract too much attention.

The Nitro Trex uses a 50 size engine I believe, and there is no reason why even a beginner cant fly one.....the airframe is near enough 30 size just with longer blades and boom.

Cost of spare parts for the Trex nitros is just insane...really sensible prices. Century is not too bad on prices...the Japanese helis are a bit overpriced if anything. Though Hirobos prices are not that bad.

A good thing if you get the Nitro Rex is that it will probably come with a lipo battery and a regulator to step the voltage down...if its the regulator I think of then it comes with its own glo plug lead which works automatically...check it out if/when you order a kit...there are package deals out there with the OS 50 Hyper engine...well worth getting.

Rc helis are quite addictive, once you start flying you can get hooked so it pays to get the best stuff you can afford.

Might pay to find some books and DVDs on the subect too....the setting up of a heli is quite involved so by reading up a bit you can be ready.

Yes Rob, I'm already hooked.
I was wondering if there are any RTF Nitros. Or if I'll have to go on ebay to get one.
I'm not familiar with the parts I'll have to get to build from a kit or an ARTF, nor do I have the experience.
There's a course being offered by Val Campos. Seems good. I'll invest when I get the funds.

Originally I was thinking about the larger Nitros, but the 50 size seems good enough. Approx. 53" rotor dia. Should be fairly stable.

OS 50 Hyper engine? sounds interesting.
I'm going to check out Century & Hirobos (sounds like Japanese). If they ship internationally, I'll add them to my "favorites" list.

I think that you are correct about the 50 size. Very capable but more affordable than a 90. I have been considering the HeliMax kinetec 50 as it's build by century and is very affordable. Check it out at Tower.
