Question body upgrade......

Forgive my lack of braincell - but ive given myself overload getting to grips with all things copter'ish....not a lot of brain cells left functioning !

I have a wlkera 68b and have decided to try and fit the "airwolf" body upgrade available at the moment(its the clear plastic type)....the main kit comes in two halves - my problem is how do i fit the body - yet still have access to the battery ? - i really dont want to be taking the whole body off every time i charge and swap batteries(one charging whilst im flying...or crashing!)....I appreciate the need for the body to be fixed fairly securly and wondered how others had got around this problem?(I did think of a wandering charging lead hanging from underneath - but this will mean i cant swap batteries or check everything is tight and working as it should before each flight) - any tips on how to make quick release panals or how to attach and un-atach the body would be appreciated !
I am hoping to fit nav lights etc to the kit as have always been a bit of a "model nut" and want the copter to look as good as possible .
I know a lot of you will probably think i need to look at scale heli's - but being a newcomer and with a wife and bank manager to keep sweet i wanted to start off slowly as it were !
I gather that in regards to layout the walkera 68 and the t-rex are very similar - has anybody decided to rid themselves of the canopy and go for something different?

Hi there,

Usually, the body is a "front section" and a "rear section" and they join round about the mainshaft. The rear section extends in its lower half to about the front skid mountings. This therefore allows you you remove the front section to access the mechanics and change the battery ect. The rear section is screwed to where the skids used to go to anchor it and the tail boom usually once stripped gets a spongy bit attached to it to take the slack out between the tailboom of the heli and the body. The front section is either attached to the rear section by pins and screws or magnets.

you can also buy lighting controllers and stuff but they are not particularly easy to get hold of and they are better suited to the bigger machines.

Ive got 2 scalers, one on a Trex 600e (JetRanger) and the other on a Trex 450xl (Airwolf). Take a look at my gallery if your interested.

I dont want to sound negative but my advice to you at the moment would be to learn to fly proffienctly on pod and boom because there are a number of big advantages to this..

1. It costs less to crash and its easier to pre flight.
2. Scale fuses are quite fragile and not very crash resistant.
3. To install your heli in a scale body, you'll need to strip a lot of your walkera down to get it in. This means it will need to be set up again once its in the body.
4. Due to the weight and surface area they do tend to fly different.
5. Installing them in bodies can be a real fiddle and its easy to have things binding and not working as they should (Especially round the tail)
6. You often have to modify things to make the body and frame play nice together.

If you do decide to press on then I would advise getting another pod and boom machine to keep learning on.

I have a spare "practice" copter as you suggest that has been re-built a number of times!
- my "scale" is for once i have mastered the art of staying airbourne and is giving me something to aspire too !
