Walkera 22E Tailrotor spinning problems....

Suddenly my tailrotor started to spinn off in pulses. It's impossible to fly.
When starting up, both rotors rotate, but tailrotor suddenly takes on it's own life and spinns like crasy! Pulsating up & down????

Anyone that can answer this one?

Re: Walkera 22E Tailrotor spinning problems....

Hi, I have 3 Dragonfly 22E's and all have the same problem at times of tail motor pulsing crazily and tail twitching no matter where I set the gyro.

It took me a long time to figure this out as it happened to every one of the helis after a while. It wasn;t until a tail motor failed in flight and I replaced it that I found that particular heli no longer had the dreaded pulses or twitch. Then it came back and I replaced the tail motor again but it didn;t fix the problem - until the main motor died.

When I replaced the main motor it was fine again.

So I replaced the tail motors on the other two helis and lo and behold - no more twitching or pulsing.

The ias happened several times now. I can;t guarantee it is the same cause as your problem, but the symptom is the same. In fact I have just got in from test flying a 22E in about 5 to 10 knots of wind at about 2 metres up after replacing yet another tail motor!

Now, when I start to get twitches instead of frantically tweaking gyros I replace a tail motor. If that doesn;t work, I mark the old tail motor as good and drop it back into the used spares box and replace the main motor.

I have found a source of 370D brushed motors at a local hobby store for $15 AUD. Tail motors I buy a few at a time because I have to order them from out of town.

Also I have modified that stupid T Shape Holder so I never have to worry about breaking the pins. That means the only things I seem to break in a crash now are blades and landing legs.

Anyway, try replacing the tail motor with a new one (but don;t throw out the old one yet) and see if that fixes it. If it does - great. If it doesn't - replace the main drive motor. If THAT fixes it, mark the old tail motor as good and keep it for a spare for next time. Then you can get a couple of flights in while you wait for a new tail motor.

Cheers,

RossD
