Cheaper alternative to Raptor 30 V1 or 2 Hi Guys I was looking around for a good remote control helicopter and found the raptor 30 V1 or 2, which I really liked but unfortunately is blowing my budget (A$800 incl. radio). Is there a cheaper alternative which suits a beginner (around A$500) ? I would prefer a nitro one but I guess battery one would do as well. Cheers Rolf

Re: Cheaper alternative to Raptor 30 V1 or 2 A-TZ 30 STD $238 for the heli alone http://www.rcmarket.org/A-TZ-30-STD-p-9082.html (OS 37 engine would add about $150) Robbe Ornith With Motor $396 http://www.rcmarket.org/Robbe-Ornith...Motor-p-2.html (I don't know what engine comes with it but you could write to them and find out) So for new stuff it looks to me like around $400 without electronics. Tower has some $10 servos so that gets it up to $450. You might be able to find a used radio that will keep you close to budget.

Re: Cheaper alternative to Raptor 30 V1 or 2 I used to own a Century Hawk Sport....the Pro is the uprated version...one darn good heli for its money...I think you can get the Hawk Pro with a 40 size 'Toki' engine....its a Japanese engine as far as I know...so good quality. Gyros can be bought fairly cheap. I would try to get an all in package if possible. Getting a decent radio is very important...make sure it will support helis....plane only type radios are a recipe for problems...and your heli will never have its potential realised with such a set. Have you tried e bay? Rob

Re: Cheaper alternative to Raptor 30 V1 or 2 I would say Hawk Pro I got mine with motor for like $265 on sale. Saved about $50 from buying from hobby shop. But I am also now kicking myself you may ask why. Well on ebay people are selling alot bigger heli's used for what I paid for mine. Most of them are like people who hovered a few time's and said can't do it or something. So pretty much new with radio and all for like a 60 size can go for $600 maybe. That raptor 90 size clone went for $750 complete but motor was bad I think.

Re: Cheaper alternative to Raptor 30 V1 or 2 Thanks for all the replies and information. I better check the Hawk Pro out it looks like that it would suit my budget. But it is already good fun reading up on all those terms and technologies. I believe I found myself a new hobby

Re: Cheaper alternative to Raptor 30 V1 or 2 Hi I was browsing through the net and found this Walkera DragonFly 60 7CH 3D Aerobatic RC Helicopter package. All included for A$250 -> ready to fly and even comes with a simulator software Since this is my first helicopter I thought that might be good one to start with. Any comments ?
