Re: Dreaming

[quote=Aztek1701;26191]Hi Vermillion,

However, what you are being told is partly true because being able to fly the CX means that you will develop the "heli instinct" which you will need when you progress into flying big fragile scale machines.

/QUOTE]

I am alittle confused with this one. I have a BCP. I am not seeing how that is only giving me the heli instinct. If it is smaller and harder to fly than then the big birds, then how is it only partly true? Is there a point that I am not seeing.

Re: Dreaming

Hi Vermillion

My apologies,

I thought you had a blade CX not a Blade CP. If you can fly a Blade CP well then absoluletly you will be able to fly a heavier scale machine because as you say it wont be blown about. The downside of this is that it will take longer to respond to your control inputs and you will have more difficulty in working out the orientation. By this I mean that a pod and boom machine it is easy to tell which way round it is when its far away. However when you have a body to look at its harder. This applies even to black coloured pod and boom machines (I know Ive got one and more than once Ive sat there wondering is that nose in or out) Apart from that, you should have no problems.

Take care... Azzy

Re: Dreaming

Hi guys,

It really depends on the heli to want a scale model of and the size you want to have.

In the T-Rex 450 size bodies are beginning to become available.
Hirobo actually sell scale kits including a scale chinook but its serious money.

The best size of mechanics to get is probably a .50 to .60 because there seems to be more bodies in this size than anything else.

For infor you might want to look at www.RunRyder.com there is a scale section there, also you can find a bodies section at midland helis http://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/ac...FkCentury.html is and example.

Hope this helps you.... Azzy

Re: Dreaming

what about a .90? how big is big?

I have a stupid question too.... what is .30, .60, and so on any way? What does that number stand for? I dont know alot about gas motors, let alone turbines ha ha. But I want to learn.

I was reading up on electric motors, pretty confusing stuff. I am thinking of moving to brushless, but I need to do more research on what else I need.

Re: Dreaming

Hi mike,

A .90 is BIG. your looking at about a 1.7M rotor span which is 5.5 Feet in old money. If you work out the rest of the details the heli is going to be about 6 feet tip to tail.

Its not a stupid question. the number .30 , .50/.60 .90 refers to the cubic capacity of the engine in cu in. A bigger engine develops more power but wieghs more and is physically bigger so it really needs a bigger heli. In practice, there isnt much difference in size between a .30 and a .50... a .60 is a step bigger and a .90 is a step bigger again.

I think the number on electric helis is also to do with the motor but Im not sure what lol. Generally a 400 / 450 size electric has about a .6 M rotor span. A 600 size is equivilent in size to a .30 Nitro.

Hope this helps... Azzy

Re: Dreaming

ya that helped alot. so is it .30cc or 30cc? 90cc sounds like alot concidering I had a moped that was 50cc ha ha! my subaru is 2000cc but making 270 HP ok any way...

So the giant scale helis would use a .90 (90cc?) how are turbines rated in $$$?? ha ha
