Rocket Launcher

Aside from Heli's and airsofting, I also like shooting model rockets. I was thinking about mounting a small rocket onto a raptor 50 or 60, then hooking up a remote control unit. Aside from the issues of hot gases and back blast, I think it could be done for <$600. I need a way to mount it, and a good Rx and Tx. Thoughts?

Re: Rocket Launcher

I am wondering if the training gear could be used. You could take it and cut the ends that stick out past the skids. Then mount the launcher to the top of the gear. It might work. But I would be concerned about the balance end of it.

Re: Rocket Launcher

I read somewhere in a 80's r/c mag I can't remember which one that someone had taken an R/C Airwolf heli and put scale BB machine guns that really fired on it along with firing bottle rockets. I remember asking my Dad then and there if I could have an R/C heli and he said no lol, too afraid I would crash it I guess

Re: Rocket Launcher

With todays political scene and the scaremongering as well I would sit down and think carefully about what you want to do.....I dont know where the FAA stand on this issue of rocket firing model helis.

I dont want to tread on your eggs.....theres plenty of folk out to ruin fun and enjoyment....but why not check out the FAA and the AMA people....it could be an offence to do this sort of thing.

If you go to www.rotory.com theres loads of american flyers there...there was a post quite recently about rc helis/planes and the potential for terrorism use.........sounds really stupid....but given the times we live in....its easy to give aeromodelling a bad name.....the AMA have to fight for model flyers rights.....much like the BMFA in the UK.

Re: Rocket Launcher

I imagine it could be done, and in an earlier life, I'd have done it
Being more aware of my own mortality now, I'd give serious consideration to the end result of a launch failure where the rocket fires, but doesn't disengage from the heli

Also concur with Hawk's statements. Don't wanna spoil your fun either, but do check into the legality of it.

Re: Rocket Launcher

You do have a good point. Ever since 9/11 everything that's not an American Flag is probably a bomb. The potential for injury is there, and if the rocket didn't come off the heli then it would probablely be sent straight into the ground (it would make a good vodeo however ) There are plenty of things I could do with $600. Buy a Glock, for example. I'm not sure if I'll have the motivation to do this, but if I ever find out its legal, I'll have to test it out.

Re: Rocket Launcher

It would indeed make a good video

Out here in sunny California, I'm sure it's illegal, if for no other reason than the fire hazard aspect of it.

In your neck of the woods, the guv'ment seems to be a little more hands off, so you may well be able to do it.

Re: Rocket Launcher

Out here in Raleigh (NC's Capital) a lot of our laws aren't enforced. I live in the city, but we have a huge park (public) that is often used to fly Gas Heli's, planes and shoot rockets. Off-duty police officers, suprisingly, also do these things, though it's technically illegal. It's nice to check though, as someone flying a gas heli while shooting rockets MAY just catch their attention.
