Multiple charging sessions for lipo

Question about lipo batteries. I have found that sometimes I will start charging my lipo and have to leave so I stop the charging cycle as it is not safe to leave it unattended. I them come back later and start the charging cycle again. I have occassions when this might happen 3 times before I get a full charge on my battery. Can this harm the batteries or shorten the life of the batteries?

It's not supposed to. Li-Po's are not supposed to develop memory particularly if it is a used pack. A new battery you would want to drain and fully charge it a few times to condition it before doing partial charges.

Thanks, I have charged and discharged them a few times without interrupting the charge cycle so it sounds like I should be ok.

Make sure you do this with a purpose built LiPo charger. If you discharge a LiPo too far it will render the battery useless at best, and positively dangerous at worst.

Please ignore if you knew this already - just wanted to make sure, as LiPo's are what they are - fantastic - but potentially dangerous.

As far as partially charging goes - no problem there. One of the upsides of LiPo's is that they are very stable at holding voltage, i.e. they lose far less voltage simply sitting around than NiCd's or NiMH's.

Re: Multiple charging sessions for lipo

Hi

the instructions with my charger specificaly state that you can partialy charge stop the charge and then start again with no ill affects to the battery. I use the Cellpro 4s charger, I wouldn't imagine that doing a multiple charge proccess would be a bad thing with others unless it states that it is.
