Wink another FNG

Good day Earthlings

Well i have been cruising your site, outstanding!!!
Finally decided to hopefully learn /own and fly a RC Heli, i work in aviation it is my passion.

Been avidly reading all forums really helpful, think i will buy
a flight sim first before purchasing an actual heli, any help and advice would be very welcome as i am a complete virgin at this, have a couple of hours on R22 and about 10 hours on fixed wing(chipmunks and bulldogs for those of you that are as young as me Ha Ha) really to expensive to follow through so the next best thing for me is RC Helicopters.
Hope you all have good flying weather love to hear from you soon,
many kind regards stegobium, ps off on my hols for 2weeks so catch you all on the flip flop

Re: another FNG

Hi there, yes its a great hobby....and its a good move going for a simulator first.....Realflight G3 is very good from what I have seen of it....and it comes with its own 'transmitter' which is a bonus...make sure your PC is strong enough to handle the program...it needs quite a powerful graphics card.

I used FMS which free off the net....I had to use a cable and spare transmitter to use it....and it helped me no end.

Take your time picking the right real model heli....theres plenty to choose from...you cant go wrong with Hirobos 'Shuttle'....Century make some great helis as well. Theres little point getting an expensive model.....but size wise you could go for a 50 size heli....wished I had....my current heli is a Century Hawk Sport....the Hawk Pro is the latest version...this is a 30 size heli.

Electric helis are fun, but Nitro power is very good in that you will get far more airtime than you would with electric....as long as the reciever/transmitter battery lasts...you can refuel and be in the air in no time.

Do read up as much as possible, get a DVD etc aimed at beginners....and do attend a club if there is one thats close to where you live....the help you will get is priceless.

RC helis can be dangerous, and nasty if not handled well.....I am probably stating the obvious...but a club will give some good guidelines and it wont ruin your fun.

Do look at joining the BMFA....once you join you will be insured....in fact any proper club will insist on this...or if you join the club then you will come under this rule anyway. The BMFA is there to protect Modellers rights....and to give advice to clubs/individuals.....because once you start flying you still answer to the Air Navigation Order....which you might realise anyway from your previous flight experience.

Keep in touch

Regards

Rob

Re: another FNG

My Boss at work has just got into RC helis....I reccomended Realflight G3 as the graphics are good and the parameters can be set...so you can alter the flight models to suit what you want.

Realflight is not cheap....but its good....very good.

If you are on a budget then try FMS which can be found on the internet...its free but you will need a lead and a spare transmitter so yo ucan plug in and play.

Try Midlandhelis ......this is on the web somewhere....they were selling FMS with a dummy transmitter....is was about £26 which is really good value.

FMS is not the most amazing sim but it will get you started....it sure helped me before I flew a real model.

At the moment I use Truflite 3D which is quite expensive....its an old program by todays standards....but it does what I want it to do....I can use my transmitter, with all its functions.

Egypt eh? I was in Israel for a while, back in 1999.

Re: another FNG

Hi,

This reply is a bit late but Ive been busy the last week. I use Reflex XTR and although It probably the most expensive sim, Id also say that its the best. Ive played with Realflight ect at Midland helis, and the problem I have with them is that I seem to be able to fly inverted without any problems however, on reflex its much harder, dont know what that implys but I think the flight model on reflex is more accurate.

Take care.... Azzy

Re: another FNG

Well hi guys been a bit busy in the old job, finally got some me time.
I bought an Esky flight sim, actually been doining very well with that, so i went and bought an electric honeybee.

Really very pleased with it, managed a couple of bunny hops with it(calibrated pitch and rotors, i think this has been done right? know a little bit about theory of flight and helos). But unable to do bugger all else with it, gosh it is really difficult.

Would dearly appreciate any help/advice form you vets please. Have now gone back to the sim for the mo. ( worried i will smack it up big time)Am awaiting delivery of a book on the subject. Ooh managed to smack the blades up good and proper and also dropped a main rotor bearing, however all fixed now she starts up nice. Many kind regards Andrew oh have a good Xmas

Re: another FNG

Many will probably disagree with me, but I would just go for it. Lift off to about 2-3 feet and see how you do. At this height at least the ground effect will be mostly gone. Just remember to use small stick movements and you'll be fine. Over-controlling has got to be the number one reason for most of the crashes I have experienced.

By the way, which honeybee did you buy, just curious.
