using rotor head designed for 10mm shafts with a 8mm shaft heli

I have a fzIII metal rotor head upgrade that was designed to be used on the Sceadu (10mm shaft), but I need to use it on a Shuttle ZXX (8mm shaft). Are there any adapters i could buy to make it work without having to change that shaft and all my head and drive mechanics??

If you have access to a machine shop it is theoretically possible to make a shim of some kind to do it...

Couldn't I just get some 1-mm thick sheet metal and wrap it around the shaft? the head is screwed on anyway, it would just give it some extra support, right? Am I barking up the wrong tree here?

I guess I could change the head mechanics to 10mm, but it would be a real pain in the *%$! I know how to go about changeing the seesaw, swash, and washout base, but how would I change the main drive gear from 8mm to 10mm?

Remember one thing as you go through this- safety!! Don't cheat and end up getting hurt.

I suppose the sheet metal could work, but if its off just a hair the whole head will wobble.

As for the drive gear, you may be able to drill off the 2mm you need, but do it on a drill press and make sure it's square, again the wobble thing!

I don't know if you've ever flown with a slightly bent main mast, but I can tell you its ugly.

hi whirly-bird

unless a factory machined spacer is available i would
recomend not to modify anything you would only be
looking fo trouble.
jhp is right safety safety safety wouldn't want to hear that
the vibration snaped the head bolt and have the main rotor
chase you around the field SCARY this would be.
if you chance it be verry carefull with helis it doesn't take
mutch for something to go rong, just a hair as jhp mentioned.

be safe happy flying

Hey steff, I understand what you're saying... Does anyone know if there are any spacers made for this purpose?

If I don't find one, I guess I'd just have to change everything to a 10 mm shaft.... Does anyone have any suggestions on how i could change it to 10mm shaft without having to buy all new mechanics? could I just change the washout base and seesaw to 10mm and use evrything i have that connects to 'em?
