Attaching video camera to RC helicopter?

Hello everyone,
I'm looking for a way to get a high angle shot looking straight down on the actors for a film I am producing. We don't have the budget to rent a full size helicopter so one of the producers through out the idea of trying to get a small HD camera (about 5-6 lbs) and see if a RC helicopter would be able to lift it about 60 in the air and fly about 10 to 20 feet in a straight line. So I thought I would turn to the experts and get some advice.

So...
1. Are there RC helicopters able to lift a load of 5-6 lbs.
2. If there are, would they be able achieve that height with the added weight.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Best,
Sean

UHM, YEAH THERE SHOULD BE A HEAVY WEIGHT HELI THAT COULD CARRY THAT LOAD. ITS NITRO AND WILL NEED A VERY EXPERIENCED PILOT TO FLY WITH THE EXTRA WEIGHT. OH OR, HAHA I ALMOST FORGOT
IF UR LOOKIN FOR A OK SHOT BUT NOT THE BEST BEST, THEN THERE ARE 2.4 GIGAHERTZ MINI CAMERAS THAT ARE SPECIFIED FOR HELICOPTORS.. i.e u wont get the trembling and shaking of ur camera with this pinhole camera.. and its onlky around 40-50 bucks

Cool Re: Attaching video camera to RC helicopter?

It would be cheaper to rent a boom truck or cherry picker than buy and outfit a heli of the size you would need.

Re: Attaching video camera to RC helicopter?

There are several RC helis that could carry that kind of weight but as the others have said they are quite expensive / noisy beasts. There is actually at least one that is actually designed for the camera platform job. Its called the minicopter joker. http://www.minicopter.de but I think I would be looking to hire a pilot who will bring the heli with them.

Take Care and hope the film turns out good... Azzy

Re: Attaching video camera to RC helicopter?

Your best bet would be to hire a AP company to do it for you. Being that your asking about this in the first place means you don't have anyone on your crew with RC AP experience so you'll have to hire a pilot anyway.
