| Greetings All, long time since i've been here. Gave up on my heli & am now back into it after 2 yrs. re-did all & had a test run yesterday. throttle, rudder & aeleron OK when used individually. But @ 1/2 throttle when i use elevator (fwd) it rolls fwd left (1030 o'clock) & when i use elevator back it rolls (big time) aft right (0430 o'clock). aeleron correction did not make much difference. Any suggestions Note I am using a home made test bed of a 2 foot square plywood base on a coupla pieces of 4x4 & bungy cords crossed thru the skids - it's heavy enuff to stop the thing from lifting off the deck & crashing, & the bungies allow flexibility to stop engine over loading etc. hope some one can help (please)! |

| Re: nexus30-aeleron/elevtr problem This sounds like a problem of "phasing". To check for that, with the engine off, position the flybar sideways (paddles on the left/right sides) and move the cyclic stick left right. Hold the flybar roughly level and observe to see if there is any change in pitch of the paddle. There should be none. Alternatively, position the flybar so the paddles are front/back and move the cyclic stick fore/aft while holding the flybar roughly level and there should be no pitch change in the paddles. If this fails then the phasing is off. Above the swash plate you have the washout arms, and above that there is a guide for the washout. The guide is clamped onto the rotor shaft so it's driven around, but the washout is free to spin on the shaft except for the guide. The thing that keeps the washout in step with the flybar is the guide. Phasing adjustment: First, take note of the vertical position of the guide because we don't want to change that. However, we need to rotate it and so you have to loosten the screws on the guide that clamp it to the shaft. Now set the flybar so that it's exactly in line with the machine (fore and aft) and while holding it that way turn the upper part of the swach plate till the ball links are lined up with the lower part of the swash plate. You will be able to do this if the guide screws are loose enough. When that's aligned you can tighten the guide screws to clamp it firmly to the shaft. When that's done check the phasing again. In general, when the flybar is exactly in line with the longitudinal axis (fore/aft) or the lateral axis (left/right) the cyclic stick should change the paddle pitch only when you move the stick left/right or fore/aft, respectively. It may seem odd that left/right stick changes the paddle blades when the flybar is fore/aft but keep in mind that we have to account for "gyroscopic precession" which moves the reaction 90 degrees in the direction of rotation. What we're trying to end up with is having the upper part of the swash plate and the flybar be in phase (alligned) with one another. For a viz aid, if you stand above the machine and sight straight down under a flybar arm you should see the flybar exactly above a ball on the upper part of the swash plate. Any angular difference is a "phasing error" and the cyclic control will be off by that amount. |
