Thumbs up Blade Balance - Heli-Max

I used my Heli-Max "Blade Balance" today for first time - very easy and accurate. I have Honey Bee King2 and am struggling to hover for more than two seconds. I damaged my original wooden blades so mounted a set of plastic Xtreme blades - terrible vibration. So I balanced my Xtreme blades and now very smooth. I used vinyl electrical tape.

Re: Blade Balance - Heli-Max

Has anyone tried using Golf Lead Tape to balance their blades instead of 2-5 wraps of vinyl tracking tape? Have about 50 foot by 1/2 inch roll someplace around. Where ywould the tape be placed? One inch from the end, top, bottom, middle, forward edge or very end of the blade?

Re: Blade Balance - Heli-Max

Hi daytona
To determine where to place the tape you first need to find the CG (center of gravity) of each blade. If the CG is the same on each tape directly on that point to balance them. If not then you can use the tape to adjust both the balance and the CG at the same time. Putting vinyl tap out on the ends of the blades is not always dun to balance them. Once the blades are balanced and the CG matches. A single wrap of different colored tap on the outer ends of the blades is used as a tracking aid.

Re: Blade Balance - Heli-Max

Got to get some better blades than the factory wooden ones. Over half of the new blades I bought are warped right out of the bag. Don't want to spend too much as I plan to upgrade to a larger size electric heli after the first of the year. Living in a RV Resort leaves out going for nitro or a gasser and the closest flying club field is over 30 miles away. LH, also about 30 miles away, is about useless as the owner only wants to get involved in planes or the RC cars/trucks. RC Heli's fliers are almost as hard to find as 1/4 and 1/5 scale RC car owners/racers.
