| gyro help please anyone please help, i have just fitted a futaba 401 gyro to my shuttle and it seems fine on the ground but i have noticed that the linkage movement is far less than the servo travel. i have used the servo limiter on the gyro so the servo travel ends before straining on the linkage, but the rudder transmitter stick now only operates over half its travel left and right . i now wonder if the rudder will be to sensitive. i have a 6exh is there any way to spread the range of the servo movement over the whole range of the transmitter stick without interfering with the gyro settings many thanks steve ![]() |

| Re: gyro The Gyro is one of the systems that when is in AVCS or H.H. you will never see it how it works on a bench. Your problem is typical and it wont affect your flight. Just be carefull, when the Gyro is in rate mode set up the neutral position of the tail blades, this is extremely important, the neutral position for the tail blades is not like the main blades, for main blades 0 pitch means no lift, this will be our neutral, but for tail blades 0 pitch means no force to fight against the torque from the main blades, tail blades should be deflected in order to cancel the torque and have the bird flighting without correcting the tail position

| Re: gyro To get the best response try this: set the ATV or servo throw to maximum settings...I use a T7CP Futaba radio...the ATV setting go to something like 140 percent...well set your rudder ATVs to the largest figure they will go. Then set the trimmer function on the gyro...its this that will allow nice fast movement for the gyro to function well. As Mgarciah mentions...you could set up the tail nuetral postion...this is quite easy really. go to HH mode....this should be so when you connect the power....always do a quick preflight check of the radio switches...label them if you have to. Right:. HH mode start the engine and hover...relax the rudder...and watch the nose/tail...if there is no tendency to swing left or right then you are ok...but if there is any left or right movement then take note....DO NOT use the trim to counter the movement. Land and make the adustment...this would be by removing a link on the rudder/tail push/pull rod...and screwing it in or out as the adjustment requires. In effect you are making a mechanical trim adjustment...the gyro can then keep its central positon then....which makes life easier for it. As a rule of thumb I use about 4 degrees or so of tail pitch...in the 'nuetral' position...as Mgarciah rightly points out...as the heli is on the ground and running its rotor there will be a 'torque' or twisting moment...this nuetral pitch setting will counter this. Let us know how you get on. |

| Re: gyro Oh..the other thing is to set the gain....the 401 has a remote gain as you know...with the spare wire that plugs into channel 5 (I think) both gains are set on the radio... Make sure the gyro function is activated...and set both gains to 60 percent...you can go higher if you want...basically if the tail wags from side to side then the gain is too high on that particular mode...just dial it down a bit till the wag stops. |
