| Re: new member Question on upgrading to larger higher quality nitro. have a hawk pro 30 size now with a os37 engine, the thing flys great once its tweeked, but wondered about a raptor 90 se. Looked at the owners manual on line and it looks much more detailed and well put together. Looked like things like the main shaft gears and such would be better ballanced. My hawk even when well balanced in weight, paddle bare. blades and blade tracking it still shakes a little and noticed the main shaft has a wobble. Replaced it and same thing, replaced the bearings same thing. Maybe its the quality of the machine? The kit was on $200, spent most of my money on the dx7 and gy401 so i could use them on a larger quality heli. |

| Re: new member The Raptor 90 is a very nice machine but its not a cheap beast to buy, fly or fix. Being a .90 the engine is going to cost more to buy (about 50% more), also the kit will be about 50% more. It'll also use fuel up at about 2 times the rate of your .37. Also I'd look at the price of spares (especially blades) for the beast before you take the plunge. If you want to replace your machine, why not take a look at the Align T-Rex 600N which will run you about half what the raptor would be. As far as your machine goes... Its not the quality of the heli cos century are good machines. Things that can cause vibrations are, tail ouput shaft (terrible for it), fearthering spindle can push the blades out of track and cause vibes as well. Dampers can also do it. Take care... Azzy

| Re: new member Thanks azzy, guess i am looking for sheer size, presents in the air, the bigger the better. The only reason i havent looked at the t-rex was the largest the make is a 50 size heli which is the same size as my 30 ie (same length, width exc) just larger engines. or is that not correct? Also im thinking electric because with a 60 or 90 the fuel burned and the increase in smoke(which i hate the most) Could maybe get close to the same flight times, except the recharging factor... Any thoughts on electric? |

| Re: new member I understand what you mean, you are roughly correct, however the .50 sized machines are a bit bigger. Typically, a .30 will run 550mm blades and a .50 will run 600/610mm blades so theres a small difference in size. A .90 will normally run 710mm blades so you can guage the size difference. A 90 sized electric will cost a FORTUNE. To my knowlege there are only 2 on the market, the Minicopter joker and the Mikado logo 24. Both of these machines I would consider to be high end. Again the cost of a machine this size is going to be high (higher than a raptor 90). I think the motors for these are going to run you at least $700.00 with another $500.00 for the speed controller. Then we get on to the packs.. a lipo for one of these beasts will be something like a 10 - 12 cell so you are going to be looking at about $800.00 for one flightpack. Not to mention the charger and balancer for the thing which will be about another $400.00. Maybe somebody can correct these prices but I think they are in the ball park. Dont get me wrong, Im not against electric... far from it I think my next machine will be one, but "buying all your fuel up front" makes getting one flying a costly buisiness + a .90 sized electric is a big jump up from where the current mainstream market is (trex 450 - 600) and therefore you pay a premium for it. If you really looking for presence in the air, nothing beats a turbine model (they run anything from 710 to 900mm blades), but nothing beats the cost of it either.. Expect to pay about $8-10000 for one. I cant tell what your experience level is in helis, but if you are a beginner to the hobby, I would steer well clear of the big helis until you can fly competently. This is for you own safety and those around you, take a look at the "fatal heli crash" thread in this forum for an example of what a small 400 sized electric can do. Take care.... Azzy

New glo plug, fully charged glo starter, fully charged electric starter, but it crankes aprox 30 seconds before it will start. Adjusted everything but you kill it and it takes forever to start. My be thats the way they all are, any ideas?? |
