Hi! I just bought a used Raptor 30 with radio off an online auction. I have never flown a helicoptor before, and I am rather baffled by the Raptor now sitting in front of me. I sure can use some help here. Q1: can anyone tell me where I can find the manual of JR Max66II online? Q2: How do I fill up the fuel tank? I know it is a stupid Q, but the fuel tank on my rc gas car has a nice flap that I can simply flip open, and there is none on the Raptor! I guess I have to detach the fuel tube from the filter and hook it to a fuel pump (which I donot have yet). But that does not seem right , as doing so repeatedly might make the tube become loose. What is the right way to do it? Q3: I know I need a starter with a hex extension. I looked at the hex cup on the engine. It looks like may be I can start the thing with a electric driller with an appropriate hex head. Is it possible? Pls help!

I can answer your question on fuel first. Most heli fuel tanks require a pump, either manually or battery operated pump to get the fuel into the tanks. You're quite right about the tube getting loose, and that's possible, although I haven't experienced that before. Usually, the fuel-filter I use have about 3 sets of gooves which sits the tube quite tightly and it doesn't come off that easily. It will also be a good idea to secure the tube to the filter with a small clip to ensure that it does't come off. Some people use battery operated electric drills to crank the engine, but the drills must have enough torque to turn it. Sometimes, it's quite heavy. Cheers ![]()

As for the manual you may email the support folks at www.horizonhobby.com to see if they can find one. They are one of the biggest JR dealers in the country. Keep in mind that the radio you have is no longer in production. I did find a manual on the internet but it was in Japanese/Chinese. You absolutely can use a drill. I've done it in a pinch only because my cordless drill's battery had a better charge than my regular 12 volt hobby battery. The other plus is that it's cordless! Hope that helps!

To fill up the fuel tank In my opinion: I have an electric motor to fill up the fuel tank. It's a pain. I've seen people use hand pumps and rubber bulb type pumps that you squeeze in the palm of your hand - I wish I had one. Maybe it's the type of electric motor pump that I'm using, but it really takes ages to get it going (I have to almost syphon the fuel into the pump part before it will work - it doesn't generate enough **** to pull up the fuel in an empty pipe, even though I lay the fuel bottle on its side so there's not much uphill - if any - to get over)

Darren, Strange, I have an electic pump which works just great. It can be left in the store for months, and after taking it out, it still pumps the fuel immediately when I flip the switch. I think your pump is either defective or it may be of some lower quaility brand.

Actually, I'm from Hong Kong (which I'm sure you 've heard a lot about lately thanks to Sars) and do read chinese. I found a chinese manual of JR MaxII at http://5260.netfirms.com/mxa66ii/page/image1.html but the resolution is rather poor, and a few pages are missing. I read somewhere that JR MaxII is the same as JRXF622 and the manual can be found at the website of horizon hobby. I've taken a look. I'm not sure if they are the same. but they seem close enough to enable me to work on my radio. Good to know somebody did start their copter with a power drill. I thought it possible but was wondering if there was something special about the starting process/tools that I didn't know about. Don't think my wimpy 7.2v drill will do the job though. I probably need to buy a 12v or more. But at least it is something I can use around the house. And it is cordless. Guess I'll go for a hand pump. a used car washer pump? I wouldn't know where to find one! Thanks for the suggestion though!
