Hi all, I have a walkera 36 (never flown) with a brushless motor [walkera wk-ws-26-001] and Lipo. I have tower pro 9g servos ready to put on and a metal head and tail upgrade. Been advised to wait and set the bird up first before I upgrade. Good advice really as I'm sure that I am gonna hit the deck a few times. Anyway on to my problem. I noticed that the spindle for the motor is quite long and covers the main gear. The cog that sits on the spindle and drives the main gear is "half way down it" as it is half the size of the spindle. So only 25% to 50% of the cog makes contact with the main gear. What should be the case here? Is the drive cog too short? Should I just put a (Bearing), spacer to bring the two in line? Any Advice would be welcome. Mickey

Re: 36# Brushless motor - Cog not aligning with Main gear Walkera and a few other companies have gear pullers to aid in removing pinion gears. I would see if I could borrow one (or purchase) and use it to pull the pinion further up the motor shaft to get a better contact on the main gear.

Would a blob of loctite on the spindle below the cog keep it in place, I'll give it a go. May just put some on the spindle to ensure a tighter fit! I bought the 36# with brushless pre-installed. As the motor AND the bird are both walkera, it leaves me a little surprised! Thanks for your assistance! I'll report my results! Limo2005 UPDATE: Loctite applied to spindle and cog placed into more suitable, if not correct position! Cog remains in place and does not travel done the spindle due to gravity! That's exactly what I have done and its working fine! Thanks for your response! As a "Newb", I really do want to get this setup right! like everyone else! I even approached my local Model shop and was told over the phone "Oh no! that an internet helicopter". I went on to say that I am buying a fully RTF RAPTOR V2 50 from them soon! But i wanted to learn on the 36# because it is cheap to buy and crash! So it was suggested I took heli lessons at £25:00 per hour! It might be worth it! But I need the BMFA membership before I can get lessons. Thats another £25:00. So I would rather wait now and give the 36# some stick time and save the lessons for the bigger bird! By then, I hope I wont need then! Cheers and good luck all! Mickey |

Re: 36# Brushless motor - Cog not aligning with Main gear Hey Limo2005 Lessons would be good, but in my opinion, your money would be better spent on a Sim and try to spend as much time on it as possible. Then after you feel confident enough, get some lessons. You'll probably advance faster than a person just going it on their own. And it would probably work out cheaper for you in the long run. Just my opinion, it's totally up to you how you want to learn. Best of luck to you, and hope you enjoy the hobby.

Thanks for the advice. It's very welcomed! I have a sim, I'm using FMS which is of course free, But i have looked at a few others too. Just in the process of choosing! I have been a PC pilot for over ten years now and have had some hands on in a few cessna's and Robinson 22. I'm hoping my experiences will help me progress a bit quicker. Just an update: The cog was glued into place and has been tested and works well. It's Sunny and little wind so I'm gonna have a hover in the back garden. Thanks for the encouragement Mickey
