| For the first time in nearly... a year, I've decided to dig my Nexus 30 out of mothballs, and try to go ahead and give 'er a little flying time. I decided to go ahead and just do a quick engine warm-up on the street in front of my home, so of course, I went ahead and fueled her up, performed an abbreviated pre-flight check, and then started up. I had to re-adjust the fuel mixture needle a bit, but eventually, I got it right (how many turns are you supposed to have it open, exactly? I have opened two turns...), or at least, right enough to run, and I took a few steps back. Started revving up, and before I even got to half-throttle, it started shaking and rocking back and forth pretty violently, but once I got to half-throttle, the shakes all but disappeared. You could still see some rattling in the canopy, and a bit in the tail, but aside from that, everything was alright. But once I touched down, the shakes came back, and everything was back as it was. But, once I got down past half-throttle, everything went fine. I've been told that you shouldn't try to take off from a cement surface, but not only have I seen others do it, the shakes happen on or off grass, so I'm assuming that's not the problem. Is it that the blades are out of balance? Or, do I need to get the control rods fixed? In any event, I'll be giving it a complete overhaul tonight, so wish me luck on that. Any advice for a Nexus 30 pilot? Aside from, of course, selling it to buy a Raptor (got that planned for later on this year). Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

| hey silver , Umm i am a newbie so i dunno how i could help , but anyways , i just started learning on my shuttle and i noticed that if i ran it too lean (any less than 2 and a bit turns out) it would do exactly what u described. i was told it could be the training gear magnify it, , were u using training gear maybe that could maginfy any shake . . I had a couple shakes thru out the heli and i found the fly bar was horribly out of whack, just a bit of trial and error with a roll of tape and the shake disappeared. anyways um i hope u had some success, and good to see u got her out of the mothballs , hope it all goes well. | *Growls.* Grah... can't say that I had much luck with it... I took all of the linkages apart, and then put them together exactly as it had been instructed in the manual, and when I did that, the damned thing wouldn't even hover. I've come to the conclusion that perhaps I should just tune it up enough so that it can get off the ground, and try my luck selling the whole kit 'n' kaboodle on eBay... try to get at least four hundred for it... radio, starter, and whatnot. Gah, I dunno... I tried adjusting the fuel mixture, too, and I think I got it perfectly on there with one point five turns open... except a huge breeze came up, and nearly destroyed it. Gah. |
