need help starting Hello all I have just been given a MOSKITO BASIC heli from a chap at work who built it, never once flew it and wanted rid of it. I have flown planes and driven RC cars, but never a heli. As I said, its already built, but only has instructions for building - not using. I have no idea how to start the damn thing - please could someone assist? I guess I need to know: where the glowplug is/how to use it. I got the 2v battery (which I assume is for the glowplug) but how do you connect? i.e where do the 2 connectors go (positive & negative) Any help here would be gratefully recieved - I am a noob so dont be too harsh ![]() Thanks Q

I would suggest that you not fly it. At least not until you get someone to instruct you or a reasonable amount of time on a simulator.

hmm helpfull that - thanks You ask a simple question.... I didn't say I was going to fly it, I asked how to start it. It is inconvievable to imagine that I want to check if everything works before going to the trouble of finding/joining clubs? ![]()

Sorry, I just assumed you would fly it since you talked about piloting planes and cars before. As far as starting, I can't be of much assistance. I have a gasser, so it's just tug the cord to start. Someone else here ought to be able to help you out though.

I'm not an expert and I fly a Raptor V2 which is glow plug start. The glow plug clip goes on the glow plug which is located at the back of the engine - you may need to remove the canopy. With that attached use the starter to crank up the little beast. I'm not sure how you start yours - hex top start or belt start. This may not be of help - as I'm not sure what your heli is. But when I started I had the same problem - what the hell do you do with a glow plug and hex rod?

Thanks Lukrap22, I have a new glowplug starter now, kinda cool, its like a pen with a battery in it, that plugs into the glowplug. Now, I also have a big starter motor (that attaches to a 12V batter) that I guess goes on the side of the heli, with a big shiny chrome cone. My problem is, that the engine just doesn't fire up I wonder if the glowplug is faulty, although I dont actually see fuel going into the engine (even when covering the exhaust) I have unscrewed the needle 2 turns as instructed. I guess the next thing to replace is the glowplug? it is probably about 6 or7 years old

Hi again Yes the starter and glow pug go together, but they must both be charged and the glow plug its slef must be in good condition. They normally last from 1 - 20 flights before changing is required. When you have replaced the plug use the starter and keep spinning the motor to push the fuel through - it should then start. If it does but stops or starts and stops after a short time you will need to adjust the richness of the fuel. The 2 turns on the lean needle (the small one that is normally found at the throttle adjuster - a screw driver small is required) and the rich needle as we call them is the finger turning one - Each factory engine is set differently but you can get the motor going by closing both then 2-21/2 turns of the lean screw and 1. 3/4 turns of the finger screw. This will allow the motor to start then you just need to fine tune alittle. When you throttle to about 45%-50% just before hover stick - you should see a nice flume of white smoke - if not open the finger screw three clicks. Hope this is of help... take it slow or it could be costly if you rush...

Few things to mention, Hi, I know this is late in the advice area however I realy think it worth mentioning, Please don't take this the wrong way but are you sure that the servo is set up correctly with the throttle. This if it is wrong it could be flooding the engine. When starting you must have the throttle stick on your radio at bottom and your throttle trim to half. If these are correct then yes you may need to change the plug if the engine still won't start. A simple way to check the plug is to take it out of the engine and fit it to the glo plug charger (but only for a short time). If it glo's brightly then generaly it should fire the engine. To check the throttle servo setting you will have to disconect it from the throttle arm. First turn your radio on and set the throttle to minnimum then adjust the trim to minnimum, turn on the heli power and the throttle should close completeley. If you hear a buzzing noise coming from the servo it is an indicator to it not being set correctly.(they make this noise because they still want to complete the range of movement.) Sorry if you already know this, Turn off the heli power and disconnect the servo horn. see if the servo moves any further buy turning the power back on. if it does then hopfully if you refit the servo horn with the throttle fully closed this should mean that it will be about right for startup. Remember that to start the heli you should only need half setting on the Throttle trim. I hope this helps and your not too offended. If there is something else You need to know we will do our best to help. Regards, Daz
