Wood Blades

Hi Friends, I've Found An Old 'kalt Cyclone Ii' In A Garage, Was Pretty Messed Up. I'm Attempting To Reserect This Old Bird, Some Parts Had To Be Made, Some I Could Repair. I've Run Into A Problem With The Orignal Wooden Blades, They Are In Good Shape, However I Need To Recover Them In Order To Use Them, I Can't Find Any Supplier That Has The Pvc Shrink Tubing, Thought About Fascal, But I Cannot Find A Supplier That Handles This Either, Am I Just Looking In The Wrong Places??? Or Do Either Of These Still Exhist, And Are Available??? Any Help Would Be Very Appreciated.
Gene.

Ok now this is for anyone that is learning with wooden blades. I used the covering that is sold by the heli shopa and though it was good it will cut up and split if you hit some dirt or grass, I found this most frustrating.
Solution,
I went to the local fishing tackle shop. They sold me the widest shrink wrap that they coat there fishing rods with. This stuff was fantastic, It not only covered the blades a different colour but the covering was much stronger than the last stuff I used. It covered the blades fantastic.

Just thought you'd like to know this alterntive. It realy did work excellent for me.

regards
Darren

Hi,Can you replace the shrink rap on a blade if it gets scruffy.I have some old blades one white, one clear, both on wood. They are both the same blade except for the different coloured covering.
I have weighed them and checked the balance ,they are both the same.
Your help would be appreciated,Brian.

Re: Wood Blades

I know this reply is very late but for anyone reading this.
As long as you cut off your old shrink wrap carefully and then replace it and re balance your blades. You should be fine to carry on and fly with them, As long as the reason for recovering them is just to replace tatty covering.

If you have had a little clout of mother earth and you take the shrink wrap off then check the blade condition whilst you can. If ok, Then recover, Balance and have a great time flying.

Re: Wood Blades

Its well worth stripping the blades after a smack.....the blade might look ok...I had a blade like that...the other was broken....the ok looking blade was stripped off...I then found a horrible crack right near the root..sure glad I checked.

Sign making sticky vinyl can be used for blade covering....some members have mentioned this on another website (www.Rotory.com I am a member of this)
