Blade Clearance

How much clearance should you have between the main blades and the tail blades at their closest point? I want to run some large blades, but don't want to suffer a main/tail blade collision.

i would think that as long as they clear with a few inches
it should be safe.if your running 580's i don't think you could go
700's but i think you must be arround 680 so 700 or 710 should be o.k

the spinning radious off the tail rotor if it clears than

It's a customized JR Voyager GS. It's my new camera ship, so large blades are a must to do an autorotation with extra weight. The blades will most likely bow upward as it lifts, so I'm probably ok on the distance. I don't plan on flying this big guy inverted at all, and the blades aren't 3d blades.

cool than you will prob fly smooth circuits with you equipment
just try one more test before lift off.
when the heli is light on the skids pull back ciclick
so the main rotor will tilt back as it will do this in flight
and even more so in a tight turn if you get in trouble.
better to know on the ground with no equipment on than in mid air.

have fun fly well

I tried your test and it turned out the blades were too long. I shortened them with my trusty dremel to about 790mm. I ran 2 full tanks of petrol through it this weekend and it flew great throughout. These gas engines fly like they're just begging you to put the weight of a camera on them.
