NiCd Disposal

I recently shorted out a battery pack of mine by putting a zip-tie the wrong way around the pack. A nice little puff of smoke and some heat dissipation later, I'm wondering how to dispose of them. Every NiCd pack I've had has warnings about proper disposal, but fail to explain just who will dispose of them properly. Any ideas on proper NiCd disposal?

If I were in the same position, I'd phone my local council and ask them.

Also, I think some model shops have recycling cardboard boxes where you can drop old battery packs.

I agree with you - they stick the labels on, but don't educate you.

R/C Batterie disposal

Hi Andrew,
The first thread here has information for people in the USA about where the nearest centres are for the disposal of the nicads and all.
I have just visited the link provided by darren-uk to the battery clinic and it is on the first page you see. If you read this page you will see it.
Hope this helps,
Regards.
Daz

I looked in the phone book under batteries. If you have a Batteries Plus store in your town, they recycle them for free.
