Re: Caliber 30 Security problem. lol chilllllllll darren, however I agree with you totally in this,,my thoughts are builder error,,helicopters are such a stressed peice of equipment when flying that NOT ONE fault can be present............how do I know ? from unfortunatly learning the hard way an example with my caliber...I crashed it and only took out the blades some linkages and one skid..this was due to having "training wheels on" and they absorbed alot of the dammage did the rebuild and everything looked good BUT.....

Re: Caliber 30 Security problem. when I turned it over by hand I could hear a very slight "ticking" sound in the tail end but was unable to find the source,,even looking at the tail shaft and bits with a dti showed no fault bearings felt good ,sprocket tight belt correct tension...so I took it out for a test and was hovering at about 10m away and at about 5m up aaaaand suddenly it started spining around and around about 4 times then stopped ending up facing towards me..with my stage of training facing towards me means BAD BAD BAD and yep lost control and crashed......dammage minimal and was a new set of blades as when I say lost control it was a controlled crash as you can understand...

Re: Caliber 30 Security problem. when I stripped it down I found that indeed the tail shaft was bent but between the two rear bearings so did not show up at the buisness end of the shaft making the shaft look straight,,,also the two rear bearings felt fine but if you put sideways load on them they sounded like they had square balls!!!lol so what happened is i missed the fault from the first crash and the bearings seized in hover causing the crash.....moral is this is not a toy but a finley tunned peice of equipment that perhaps can kill or maim and EVERY LITTLE thing must be checked to avoid accidents which has been a very valueable lesson to me by the way the caliber is a wonderfull chopper.....

Re: Caliber 30 Security problem. @Daz, I have assembled many Helis before this caliber, and never had any problem like this. Besides, the Mast Stopper comes pre installed on the box when you buy the kit, so the building error must be from kyosho. I only had tight the screw and glue it with blue loctite, the day before the accident, because the mast stopper has slide down, but this time on the ground. At the time, i think in change the mast stopper for one with set screws that bite into the main shaft, but has the original part seems strong tighten i have left it as it was. I didn't think that it slides again after i tight it !

Re: Caliber 30 Security problem. perhaps your part was faulty?? as it does not seem to be a common problem with caliber?

| Re: Caliber 30 Security problem. Saying that it is a fault that you can pass to the company is plain rubbish. I dont know who built any of the heli's that I buy unless they are built by myself then I check everything. For crist sake people and this is a SAFTEY ISSUE, Do you not all pre flight your helis? Even if the heli comes ready assembled you deserve a good kick in the nuts if you think it is ok to fly it without checking it safe for flight to begin with. LISTEN I know I am coming accross as a guy that is stressed, BUT these things do KILL PEOPLE. I hate to think that anyone can buy them and just oppen a box and fly them. CHECK YOUR HELI'S. Your life could depend on it. I HAVE witnessed a 30 size heli strike a person. It is not somthing I wish to see again. This was due to an accidental radio activation in the pits while a chap was flying, Not a parts failier. But hey whats the difference. (Before you go slagging the guy of for turning on the radio. I will just say that it was a toddler 5yrs old that couldn't resist the urge to touch.) Come on guys heli's today are so well designed that they very often dont require the same amount of attention to detail as they used to BUT is that any reason for lack of care? Of course not, so lets not let our standards slip and be safe. as for the fact that the parts are already on the heli, IF you didn't put them on there. Check it properly. Its no good bitching about them not assembling it right if you the person opperating it can't be arsed to check it yourself. If you dont get on with that part then change it for a part that you do get on with. But dont condem the company or the heli for your lack of experience, Just pass the information on as a tip to others. Thats what got me to gripe about your post was the slanderous way you condem the heli and then the manufacturers. In all the years of flying these things from gliders to heli's. I have yet to come accross a machine that was unsafe with the proper care. These machines fail for many reasons nearly all through lack of ability, lack of attention, over zealous flying or driving. going beyond your limits, or that of your batteries/ model. Thats me done on this one. GUYS PLEASE be SAFE regards and happy flying to all. Darren.
