Safety First

I am in disbelief that no one has posted here because out of all the things in this hobby I think that safety should be FIRST and Foremost in our minds.REMEMBER these heli's are very dangerous and can hurt very badly or even kill a person if care is not taken. Most new people do not realize that the rotor head on these things are spinning at around 1800 to 2200 rpm and that those blades can do some damage.Even the small blades on fixed pitch heli's can cut a persons arm open if it hits them, remember these things are NOT TOYS even though some people think that they are they are very dangerous I cannot stress that enough I have read some forums where a new person has bought a new raptor 50 built it tried to fly it got hit by it because he lost control and got a major slash on his hands, broken fingers and broken ribs he was luckey that it did not kill him.
Always be aware of your surroundings and if people are around and you do not feel comfortable flying around them land and wait until they leave or pack up and leave yourself also animals can be trouble I have seen dogs chase heli's and the owner thinks it is funny until someone ask him if he understands that the heli could kill his dog and then it is not so funny any more.
I always tell new people that if they really plan on staying with this hobby put out the money to join the AMA it is a great group and the insurance that they cover you with is well worth the $50.00 dollars a year because if you ever hit someone or cause property damage to something you will find out how expensive it can get and if you are flying under the rules and guidelines of the AMA the insurance will cover you,I am a member and it is the first thing I renew every year check it out http://www.modelaircraft.org/ .Come on guy lets post some safty tips here and keep it up front in your mind but most of all HAVE FUN and ENJOY it is a great hobby!!!!!

Exclamation Re: Safty first

I agree with you on the safety thing, the blades spinning at lets say 1800 rpm with a circumference of perhaps 4.7m = tip speed of 500kmh?? sounds too high but circum =1.5m*3.142=4.7m 4.7*1800=8460 meters per min or 507600 meters per hr or 507600/1000 = 507 kmh so yep blardy dangerous when you think about it

Re: Safty first

correction caliber rotor...1230mm so 1230*3.142=3864 meters per min or 231840 meters per hour or 231 kmh....still very fast tip speed......

Re: Safty first

I don't need the math I use my Digital Tachometer and measure the speed of the rotor,my Trex was 2400 and my JR was 1850 head speeds.

Re: Safty first

well since you asked....

Never turn your heli on first only after you've turned on your controller

Never turn off your controller first

keep watch on lipo's as with cheap chargers they seem to like to explode...

always preflight check your bird for loose screws, blades, ect

never use a heli with a cell phone on as these seem to cause interference when they update causing a glitch, and if you get called it will result in a crash.

Always give me your heli's as this will improve your ah coolness with me... :P

Re: Safty first

Thank you for that post there are some people out there that think that they cannot be hurt by these little heli's and that they are nothing but toys so your post just adds to the fact that THEY ARE NOT TOYS and can be DANGEROUS!!THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!
