| fatal heli injury? I was at the hobby store a few months ago and over heard a conversation about a nitro heli hitting a man in the neck. Supposedly he was teaching a newbie and looked away for a few secs and got hit with it. Is it possible to get killed with a 30 size heli? |

| Re: fatal heli injury? I have heard of .60-.90 size decapitating a person, I think a .30 can do a fatal blow, depending on the blade I would figure. I was talking to a guy at my lhs and he told me of a couple of guys that thought it was a good idea to hover a raptor .90 in their living room while intoxicated at a full out party, the thing that came to my mind was "all it takes is one glitch" |

| Re: fatal heli injury? Hey there, Yes, if a 30 size got you in the right place it could be fatal. Its quite unlikely though and its possible that an spoonful of water can be fatal too. That said if the thing hits you its gonna hurt. There is a thread over on Runryder about the guy that got hit in the neck. I Doubt that a 60 / 90 size machine could decapitate anybody cos the blades are quite blunt on the leading edge and there is a lot to get through. You should ALWAYS treat them with respect (whatever size they are). Ive seen the video your talking about the guys hovering the raptor in the living room and I agree, one glitch and people are gonna get it, it was lunacy. The same thing applies with the video of someone propstanding a 60in span sport plane above a crowded swimming pool. Nuts, these people should know better. Take care.... Azzy

| Re: fatal heli injury? Hello, This story is True,, It is a shame that things like this can happen but they do. This is why it is very important to realise that the flying of even these little T-rex heli's is not something that should really be done if you can not control the enviroment your in. By this I mean, If you are flying and then little children run toward you and your heli. Land and go home, Trust me when I say that even the T-rex can do major dammage to you if it hits you. The man that was Killed, His name was Ron Kyle, He was teaching a student on a buddy lead system. The student had been training in the hover for quite some time and was getting ok. Ron had to turn for some reason whilst the student was hovering and this made the student loose confidence. The heli came back toward him he shouted and as Ron stood up the heli blades hit him in the neck. I don't have to say much more about it exept it was a freak accident that left a lot of traumatised people and one fatal. Please learn by others errors. Whilst this is a great hobby it does have its dangers. Here is a report from the accident time.

| Re: fatal heli injury? Trying to fly a 90 size heli in a room at a drunken party is the most stupid thing you can do.....if the people concerned realise how much risk is involved then get on with it.....but for those who dont know and are innocent then the operator of the said heli needs to take a long hard look at himself/herself and just know that whether intoxicated or not....they are responsible for other peoples safety. I heard of a similar thing here where I live....man tried starting a 30 size heli indoors at a party....luckily it wouldnt start. Rob |

| Re: fatal heli injury? Hi Guy's! To say the least where I fly in a open park with buildings a way's away and light towers for baseball I get turbulance when the wind blows. Now think of being in a room with no furnature, or people. The rotor wash will be dreadfull. Now add furnature and people and the risk has jumped 1000%. I was breaking in an OS 50 yesterday in the front yard.... there was a little breeze but the cloud of exhaust hung over the yard 3 doors down. The yard is caked with a slime of oil which is still there today. Just think what their living room was like! I have had my near fatal episode so I know what it feels like. Jim P.S. it's 2 years since I started flying helicopters and there is nothing out there that brings more enjoyment in the hobby. |

| Re: fatal heli injury? I have gotten smacked on the arms and hands by the blades on my little hummingbird V.3 and my walkera 22D and they hurt a lot, and i fully believe if the blades hit me in the right way or the right angle it will leave a cut and not just a bruise. JD ![]() |
