Re: How to keep a 4 year old back?

Yea, he was around 50ft away when I started flying without telling him or anyone else that I was gonna try (figured that would keep him back if he didnt know about it), but as soon as I started to get the blades up to take-off speed, he came running at it, not too close but much too close for comfort with such a big heli, and so little control.

Re: How to keep a 4 year old back?

Don't even bother to try, its too simply too risky. A friend once brought his 5 years old kid to watch me fly, for everyone's sake, I switched to a FP instead of a 400 EP. We taught him the danger, and he stayed well away from the heli all day, and he behaved well in a couple of more weekends. After all those well behaved weekends, I thought it was safe so I started paying less attention to whereabout he is and what he is doing while I am flying. All out of sudden, he rush towards the heli while I was landing it, I had to cut power and roll the heli over to the other side so the blades strike the ground instead of him.

You never know what a kid will do next...

Guess Ill prolly stick to the Blade CX, or Blade CP next time he's around, that or I might just invest in some wooden steaks and some rope. THink a 30x30 zone will be good enough?

And sometimes nothing helps, his older brother was here today standing beside me while I flew. BCP took a crash landing due to me needing more parts. Sent it back up, and found out I had no control, we both hit the deck, and yet it still managed to hit his leg.

Personally I dont mind people watching me flying....but with kids? I explain in no uncertain terms...that they need to keep well back.

Agree with Rob (although I can't imagine how many lookeyloos there are on the rock you live on ) It's tough enough with adults, but at least (most of them) have the sense to ask questions like: Am I far enough back? To which my answer was: No. Feel free to watch, but please, from back there.
With an older person, one can show them the scar and they get it. With a 4 year old - don't fly. It's that simple. I couldn't explain to a youngster any more than I can to my cat - this thing can hurt you - badly! (And no! We don't chew on the helicopter.) I have a couple local 8-10 yr olds that want to watch me as well. I don't mind, but from over there please - bearing in mind wind direction, attention span, etc. Don't wanna sound preachy, but it's your responsibility not to hurt them, not their fault if they get hurt...

Re: How to keep a 4 year old back?

I have a similar problem with my 2yr old daughter, she tends to want to run at the heli when im hovering, scaring me half to death and almost crashing. I've always made her get behind me and look between my legs to see, so shes out of range of any crash and itll hit me instead of her. 4yr olds are much bigger though, just something ive tried and it works

Re: How to keep a 4 year old back?

Yea I know what you mean I was flying at a christmas party and I seen a kid start running at it from far away out of the corner of my eye so I landed a bit hard and then ran in between him and the heli and told him no. Then someone got him back. I also know what you mean because I have my little cp and I used to fly alot in our field we have next door. But these kids kept coming around and got so close to it I couldn't fly and then one asked me if he throw a rock at it if it will crash. I just glared at him. Then I took it in because they would not listen and they were literally so close that I almost hit them hover and sometimes moved close to them on purpose to scare them but but no luck there dumb buts stayed. I hit myself with my cp in shoulder and so I know it hurts a bit but won't cut or hurt that bad. But my big nitro one will so hope to god they don't come around when I am flying it got lucky so far and haven't seen them in awhile.
