Re: Patience! Damned close call! Yes I have hit myself with my cp hover in front of me and wind changed or something and it nicked my shoulder hurt pretty bad but only for a few secounds then I was ok. But the face yea could hurt. I have a story I was out flying at the flying field with my century hawk pro 30 and my step dad was coming in with his plane so I pulled it in front of me and some how it came really close to my head because it came back and left. Probably came maybe at most a few feet maybe less the a foot from my head so yea scary. Maybe I am exaggerating a bit but it was way close it looked like.

Re: Patience! Damned close call! One of the biggest misshaps I see as a trend is lack of willingness to inspect your gear and double check your actions before takeoff. We had 2 90 size helis bite it over new FoolishTaba servo horns falling off and myself? This weekend I caught myself ready to lift off with the GlowPlug STILL in the connector , the combination of heat from the running motor AND the Current applied to the plug it would have overheated in two minutes causing a NON volitional Auto rotation landing.Being a begginer with Auto Rotate it would have been a wreck. My Raptor Titan 50 almost became a Craptor!! Starting up a IC engine next to your vehicle is another disaster waiting for a happening, One weekend a Reciever battery wire connection decided to "Go-South" 'during' takeoff and almost took out the windshield .No, it wasn't me but that doesn't matter I "HAVE" done this before and since then I run a cable from my car battery out to the flight line and forgo the lazy-ness , call it learn from others mistakes, it's cheaper that way. Flying too close? So far so good, I have not the nerve to fly shorter then 50 feet accept on a landing sometimes it's closer [presbiopia $^cks]. My flying has a long way to go, and at that, does a "Skilled" pilot mean it's OK to take chances? I think not, but being human we all get foolish in a week moment, witch is why I like small groups 3 people or less. NO KIDS!! or pets would be ideal. And OH YA, AMA insurance doesn't hurt either. #867896 Scott

Re: Patience! Damned close call! Hi Scott, I've started flying in 78 and 99% was on fixed wing. Fixed wing is like autopilot as the plane will fly its self without your input except for turning and so on. You can get away with so much with few cardinal rules. On the other hand helicopters cannot fly on their own and demand All your attention. Every mishap can be avoided but one must learn through your own and others mistakes. These "Heli Rules" are like Titanium pillers which cannot be broken. I am learning this from my own flying experience. Titanium Piller's 3D Flying 1. Never switch into 3D mode while in flight. 2. Never switch out of 3D mode until on the ground OR on committed landing approach and touchdown. Close Calls 1. After a heart stopping near miss.. Never try to land right away because you will forget to land gracefully. Been there done that! 2. Fly simple patterns and cool down and land on flat ground. Fiberglass rotors are very expensive not including servo gears etc. Excited by people watching you fly 1. Never be pressured into flying! I my worst enemy on this. I showed off my camera mount and without fixing a problem with the gyro got it in the air and was like a bucking bronco. I got it on the ground asap and it tipped over. 2. Avoid flying with lookie lou's. It's better to abort a flight than to show your temper while picking up the pieces. Baby Steps Every flight must be taken in baby steps. Only fly within your compfort zone. Practice doing figure 8's till they are performed with your eyes closed. Expanding from this step will be easier. Jim

Re: Patience! Damned close call! Bloody hell, l had to read this thread 3 times and then ask the 7 year old kid next door to translate the 'text speak'! Can't you people use a QWERTY keyboard or spell? I fly my Twister CP V2 in a 8 ft x 8 ft space and flirt the blade tips with my head with no mishaps, it's taken over a year to do that and without a 'sim'.

Re: Patience! Damned close call! It matters alot if the message can't be understood and the wrong advice given! Dose dat mk ne hlp 2 u lol ur nt gud wiv ur heli r u lol (composed by a child but l typed it on my phone) - there's an old adage: "**** in, **** out", if you type crap then you'll get crap back! Or worse, ignored completely....
