what should I buy (Radio or bird) Hi... I have already a radiou (FUTABA 7UHF) and a helicopter (Kyosho Concept 30 SRX). I have had them for at least 3 years. It also has been a while for me to fly it. Now I want to get back into it. I also notice that I have some extra money to spend. I wander if I should buy a better helicopter or a better radio. Can you recommend which helicopters or radio to buy? thanks! ![]()

Hi xman, This is outside of my experience because I'm personally only at the hovering stage and just starting to move into figure eights and sideways on hovering. (although since I found FSM and PRE_Flight, two *free* model heli flight simulators a week ago, I expect my abilities to come on in leaps and bounds). But from all the articles I've read so far, they say "Get a better radio". It's likely you'll outgrow your radio far faster than the capabilities of a helicopter. Even my Shuttle Z-TS is said to be able to do basic aerobatics. But if I didn't have a radio that would allow be to set up pitch curves, throttle holds, idle-ups, blah, blah, blah, then I'd never be able to get close to those. Let's wait to see what some others say, but in my opinion: Radio. (Or keep the money ready to replace the parts that you break when working on advancing your flying !!) Just had another thought (hence this edit): I've also since learned that putting on lighter paddles will make your helicopter more responsive. So perhaps this will see you through a few more gallons of fuel yet? Only when you feel that your heli is no longer "good enough" (it doesn't do those loops as tightly as you want too) - or the blades fly off because you're now good enough that your flying is stressing it too much - then it's time to upgrade the heli. But you'll need an adequate radio to be able to get there first. Last edited by darren_uk : 04-17-2003 at 02:18 PM.

Hi Xman First Save your DO$H if I understand you correctly you are restarting after a break. If it was me I would find that advice if I had the money for the new kit, however. The Concept 30 is ( if in good condition) very capable and agile and will be more than adequate for most of flying needs up to more advanced. As for your radio it works at the moment for your combination and as Darren-uk says when and if you decide your kit does not enable you to perform a particular skill then it is time for upgrade, you will also have more time to gain more experience of what is happening locally (who flies what ). When you buy a new heli go for the best that your buget allows and possibly what your local hobby store keeps the most spares of. As a final note my opinion is go for a radio first as this will enhance the range of pilot skills you can practice with your current heli. Happy Landings
