Re: jr xp7202

G'day all.
I just bought a 7202(the aussie version is a 2720) radio a week ago. I have set it up in my t-rex and for the most part was pleased with it. Anyone who has used a 8103 (3810 Aussie) will fall right into programming this radio as the software interface is based on the 8103. In fact i can see only a few small improvments over the 8103 software in things like expo smoothed pitch and throttle curves (all though i doubt weather tha average sport flyer could pick the diffference in flight). And of cource the synthetic channel selection, letting you change to any channel number in the band. This would be great at busy fields with lots of members. The only thing i didn't like about this radio, and the one reasion why i am now going to sell it for an 8103, is that there is no flight time counter or stopwatch. I can't understand the guys at JR not including the feature. I used to fly with a stopwatch cliped to my antena, BUT THAT WAS 20 YEARS AGO!! My previous radio was a JR X-388s which i loved but it died on me a few weeks ago. The 2720 would be a great radio but for me it's usless with out a timer.
So i'm off to find a second hand 8103 and a systhetic RF modual.

Re: jr xp7202

I think i'm about to buy a xp7202, b/c I can't find the right combo of servos and PCM version of the 6102, and the futaba 7CHP doesn't have some features I might need later in life. I could care less about a timer, since my ESC has a low battery alert thingy. Is this a great future proof radio, good for pretty much any application, planes heli or otherwise?

Re: jr xp7202

I just purchased the XP7202. The place that sold it to me also sold me a set of Hitec HS65 servos. I'm not sure why he said I had to have the Hitec HS65 servos when the XP7202 comes with DS285 digital servos. What would be the better servo to use? The DS285 servo fits the frame of my T-Rex 450SE pefectly. The only place the HS65 fits is the forward and rearward cutout. Other wise I would have to enlarge to cutouts for the HS65. Can they be mixed?

Re: jr xp7202

If the servos fit and the weight is ok I use what I brung, so to speak. I prefer digital for competition, 3D flying. I use the fastest digital servo I can find for the tail and it help the gyro. This is one item you do not want to scimp on. I use Fut 401. heading hold gyro and the 9xxx something servo that came with it. Yes it is expensive but I saved up for it and I am glad I did. If you can afford, get a heading hold gyro and a fast servo, it helps a great deal. I also do not go for a lot of upgrades unless I just want to bling it and make it look sharp. If you are learning, use what came with it. By the way, I have owned most of the JR radios out there and Futaba also in my 40 years of service, all are great products. My very first radio was a Futaba 4 channel in 1972. I then went to 5 channel Kraft, Prolines. They had metal cases back then. You have a good one in the 7202x The radio I like is one that will give me multiple points in throttle, pich, idle ups and so forth. Most of all, the best I can afford. There are a lot of great 6 channel radios that work just fine for sport, advance, 3D flying. I also like one that I can mix the gyro sensativity up in my Idle up modes. I fly FAI so you have to tame it down from 3D modes in order to fly smooth.

Let me know how you like the 450SE. I want one.

JIM
