Tail Servo Reversal

I recently replaced my stock futaba tail servo with a high speed JR one. After installing the new servo, I noticed that it worked in the opposite direction as the old one and I had to reverse it on both the transmitter and the gyro. Is it normal for different servos to operate in different directions?

I wouldn't be surprised. Although I've yet to come across one.

Yes
there are even some differences in the same manufacturer with direction of rotation. This was however when replacing a very aged servo with a new super servo.
