| RealFlight G2 Sim - Hover? I'm an old fixed-wing flyer, but would like to learn to fly helis. I have a copy of Great Plains RealFlight G2. I know it has been replaced by newer versions, but I thought I could use the G2 to see if I could at least learn to hover with the trainer. Apparently not - or I'm really doing something wrong. It has been a frustrating few weeks with little, if any, improvement in skill. I can fly the thing around a bit and even land without crashing, but I absolutely cannot hover the thing in one place. It keeps side slipping or flying away from me. No amount of right stick control will get the trainer to hover. And no amount of trim adjustment helps. I am a pretty smooth airplane flyer and I thought I had some degree of dexterity, but I'm frustrated to the point of giving up. I assume the problem is all me, but I have to ask. Can the RealFlight G2 USB Interlink controller really hover a helicopter in the right hands? Thanks for any advice anyone might have. I don't see the point in buying a heli if I can't hover the simulator. Jerry Plemons jplemons3@tx.rr.com |

| Re: RealFlight G2 Sim - Hover? HI jmp Welcome to the forum. Stick with it. I've seen a lot of plank flyers with this same complaint. Heli flying requires a completely new set of skills. You'll need to develop a vary soft touch on the sticks in companions to the stick banging your probably use to. The real trick is to anticipate what the heli is going to do and stay one step ahead with vary light control inputs and fly the rotor disk not the body. It just takes time to develop the reflexes keep at it and you'll get it .

| Re: RealFlight G2 Sim - Hover? hovering is like keeping a ball bearing in the middle of a sheet of glass, you have to feed in little corrections...but not over correct...so each movement needs to be countered but also reduced so the heli settles down. I found hovering a real model much easier than the sim, with real models there is some degree of slop and play in the linkages...maybe the higher end helis are more precise. The play will make things a lot steadier for sure. Keep at it, you will get there. Rob |

| Re: RealFlight G2 Sim - Hover? Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I did discover one thing. I purchased a copy of ClearView and found that it was far easier to hover almost all of the helicopter models than my old G2 version of RealFlight. I was able to hover the Honey Bee FP and even a few CP models for short periods. Many thanks again for the encouragement. I haven't decided on which real model to buy yet. I want to spend enough time in the sim to feel more confident before I attempt to fly a real heli. My initial thoughts are to go with a fixed pitch model first and to select one that a local hobby shop has parts for. Jerry |

| Re: RealFlight G2 Sim - Hover? Fixed pitch can be a pig to fly, you need a lot of anticipation for the up and down bit..plus you will probably end up with something that has a tail rotor powered by its own motor...these helis do fly but are rubbish. The only fixed pitch that is half decent is the Blade CX2 type heli....the Picco Z is good as well but really is a toy...I have a Twister Bell 47 which is the same as the CX2 layout...its an indoor heli really...you need quite a large room though. For what you pay you get a lot of helicopter...plus the controls will represent how the more serious models are controlled. With Sims you are looking at an 'ideal' world, they do help for sure...I used two very basic sims for about 10 months before buying a real model...but each sim has its qualitys. Reflex XTR is a good sim to get but if Clearview has enough features then keep using it. Rob |

| Re: RealFlight G2 Sim - Hover? it seems this simulator also compatible with RealFlight G2. ![]()
