setting for FMS simulator

I just received a copy of the FMS flight simulator and can't figure out howto set it up properly.

I would like to set it up so it sort of works like a helicopter - left stick is up and down
right stick is left, right, forward backward.

I'm not getting very far and any help would be appreciated.

Re: setting for FMS simulator

Do you have a radio all connected up and is the sim registering that its actually working?

If so you need to go to 'calibrate' and follow the prompts.

Next:

channel assignments

channel 1 is aileron/roll
channel 2 is elevator/pitch
channel 3 is throttle/power
Channel 4 is rudder/tail rotor
the other channel you need is the collective pitch...FMS call this some crazy name like hop or some dumb name...but this needs assigning tp channel 3.

You are aiming for 'mode 2' which means the right stick is cyclic...push forwards to go forwards and push right to go right and so on....the left stick up and down is heli up and down and left/right is the nose left right of the heli. sounds like you got that bit right.

Some people dont like FMS but I think it does a good enough job...I used it for ages...sure did me good

Re: setting for FMS simulator

Thank you Hawkman - I appreciate the response

And you are right, I am trying to get the sim to be setup for mode 2. I will try the setting and see if that helps.

Re: setting for FMS simulator

The dumb term is 'nick' why its called this on the sims channel setup I will never know. 'nick' should be collective pitch....dont get confused with 'pitch' which for the cyclic means nose up (pitch up) and vice versa.

Enjoy FMS, as I said before its not a bad sim...there are better ones for the price...but for a freebie I think it does a good enough job.

Re: setting for FMS simulator

Thanks for taking the time to follow up - you obviously had to take some of your time to check in that one.

I am still trying toget the FMS towork, but I went ahead and purchased a copy of RealFlight 3.5. That one seemed to get a lot of reviews.

I do want to get into this hobby and my decision to try to buy a less expensive Heli and learn on my own isn't working out too well. So, it may be an expensive simulator program, but I hoping that if I spend the winter on the sim and building a model - maybe in the spring I get some time outside and learn to fly a bit.

Re: setting for FMS simulator

I use FMS and Real Flight G4. With FMS I set Tail=4, Nick=2, Roll=1, and Pitch=3. If I use the E-Sky EK2-0905A controller then I have to check the Inv box for all four channels. If I use my Interlink Elite Controller then I leave the Inv box unchecked for all 4 channels. I'm still trying to land on the roof ov the shed
