Trimming out the AXE CP

Hi all, new to G3 Heli's since 1-19-07. Have never flown any RC aircraft in RL.
Have spent MUCH time with all MS Flight simulators but nothing RC...ever.

So I REALLY wanna get an E-Flite Blade CP or an AXE CP so the AXE is what I'm spending all my time with. Started with the CX and it got pretty boring pretty quick. Obviously the CX is very good at what it does but that is all it does.

In flying the AXE CP, I've been able to trim the tail rotor pretty well in that it stays pointed where I point it. The main is proving to be a bit more difficult. Am I wrong in assuming that with no wind I should be able to lift off straight up and with no cyclic whatsoever the heli should sit still with no wavering IF I have the main trimmed correctly? I've gotten to where I can hover tail in in a box that's about 2' on a side for long periods of time but I'm constantly making slight adjustments to keep it there. Is this normal? Can the main be trimmed to perfection? I would think it could.

Affraid that your expectation of the helicopters ability to hold still in the hover is somewhat greater than that possible. A heli's ability to hold hover is just down to the pilots skill and attention to it. It is true that the larger the heli gets the longer it will stay in one spot before drifting off. But this is not a great amount of time at all. Even a full size heli needs constant little inputs to hold it steady in a hover.

You should realisticly expect to get the heli set up so that you can lift straight up if in a no wind arena. But you will allways have to be making little inputs to hold the hover. The thing is that in a area where you have no wind and are out of ground affect the heli should be able to hold the hover longer without inputs if your ability to settle it right is good.

I feel that if I don't add this next peice of information the answer may not be that much help really so here goes,
In setting your helicopter to hover and appearing as though you are not doing anything to help it you would now be relying on your ability to set the exponensials in your radio. If you spend time setting your exponensials you can then put in fine inputs to your aileron and elevator to hold the hover.
Normal servo movement can be harsh and trying to have your heli appear as though it is hovering effortlesly is somthing I have seen many a newby struggle with. This is because they don't know how to use there exponensials.
say for instance you are going to your exponensials and you are on the elevator channel. when you adjust your elevator exponensial your elevator can now move much softer around mid stick. This may take some time before you find the right feel for you. You can either make the servo more responsive or less so depending on what you want to gain.
So if you then take your aileron and do the same with this you then have the ability to use very fine inputs around center stick for ele & ail meaning that your heli will hold its position easier around hover. Thus less work for you to do.

Remember you can speed the response up or slow it down around center stick. To get a harsh response out of the servo if you have slowed it around center stick then you simply need to move your stick further for aggressive reaction.

Exponensials are a godsend for those of us that like to look in complete control.

The bad thing is that not all radios will have this ability to adjust EXPOS. But most computer ones should.

I need to know what radio you are useing first. But to give you a clue on mine which is a Futaba FF8 Super, I have to go to the menu and find the exponensials (EXPO) page. On this page I can get aileron, elevator and rudder exponensials. I simply choose the one that I want to adjust then make my adjustments and watch the servo response to make sure that I am slowing it around center if thats what I want.

SO what radio do you have? Not that I will know that model!

I'm only in the Real Flight G3 Simulator...no real bird yet.

The controller I'm using is an Interlink Plus by Futaba.
The info from Real Flight never mentions anything about EXPOS...hell it doesn't even talk about the 4 'trim' adjusters. I'm kind of assuming that's what they are since that's what they seem to do...I'm starting to sound like the noob I am huh....
