Free RC Helicopter sim (and a good one)

Searching the RC Helicopter websites tonight, I finally found my Holy Grail:

http://n.ethz.ch/student/mmoeller/fms/index_e.html

It's a *FREE* RC simulator - mainly fixed wing but it has three helicopter too - and one of them's a 3D model.

I tell you - I feel more confident about nose-in hovering now (the tip I read about - I think Colin wrote it - was to push the cyclic at the downside of the disc. Works for me! Tends to be a bit wobbly at the transition back to tail-in hovering (i.e., "normal" hovering).

Anyway - it will work with a joystick, and I think it will also work with some special cabling to your radio box but I haven't done that yet (I've a JR XP642 if anyone care to comment)

FMS is not half bad for a free sim it works fine with my JR tranny so would think it should work with XP642 the cable I bought of a geezer on Ebay in the UK, cost approx fiver and he keeps appearing occasionally with a few for sale. My nose in hover is probably my worst it never feels comfortable.
Happy landings

I've tried the FMS before. Good graphics, but need a joystick to play with it.

It won't help much if it can't be connected to your real radio. What you need is to build up reflexes using the correct radio mode that you fly with.

Yep, got my JR transmitter working

Hi Colin and rotorz:

About an hour ago I got my JR XP642 working with FSM (see separate thread in this folder).

rotorz: just needed a regular walkman headphone socket to soundcard mic-in/line-in cable (even though it has stereo plugs, it works fine).

Colin: You are so right! Even though I'd become really skilled at flying with the joystick, flying with the transmitter *was* different. So now I'm going to be practising with the transmitter instead of the joystick.

Darren,

That's great!

I also learned flying on my own using the CSM simulator. It plugs straight into my transmitter, using the buddy cable and a special interface.

So, my reflexes got pretty good enough that I didn't crash once during my learning curve from take-off- hovering, and normal flight.

My crashes (2 of them, came from other reasons, but that's another thread)....
