Problems with TTH39

Hi everybody.

Yesterday I went to the field to fly my heli (better said to try flying it 'cause I still learning) and I had a problem with the engine.

The heli is a Raptor 30 v2 with Thunder Tiger TTH39. Till now the engine was always working right. But now, the engine starts normally but when I put the glow plug starter out the engine stops. I think that it could be a problem with the glow plug but I'm not sure. This time I have used fuel with 5% nitro methane and I had always used 10% till now.

If I let the engine run with the starter pluged I get a lot (and I mean a lot) of white exhaust and the engine seems to loose power until it is not able to lift the heli.

Any suggestions? Thank you very much in advance. Best regards.

have you been leaning the engine as you've run it in?

hey guys

the plug would be good to look at
also you should be using 15% nitro and add 4 to 5 oz of clotz oil
so you have the 20% recomondation.high speed needle should be near 2 turns open and low speed 3 turn open to start with.
if while throtleling up thew engine sputters and fuel drips from muffler lean low speed 1/8 of a turn at the time but remenber you must always see a trail of smoke at hover and below, high speed as well but at 2 turns open it should be close.

let me know how it goes

no prob what it means is that big needle adjustment on the carburotor if you turn it clockwise you lean the mixture of air and fuel so the engines rpm will rise and if you lean to mutch the engine will over heat ,loose power and die

if you go counter clockwise you richen the mixture this means you have more fuel going in so engine nice and cool with trail of smoke but if to rich youre engine is slugish and you have less power. so you see this is the fun of finding the proper adjustment for the engine.

the low speed adjust is the same ,you just need a small screewdriver to get at it since it is hiden in the throtle arm.
if you look in the centre of the control arm on the carb you will see a flat headed screew this is youre low speed adjustment,it is factory set at about 3 turns open, just make sure you fully close the carb when you adjust this otherwise when you go low stick you can completly shut off fuel suply if it"s closed to much.

anny more info i will gladly share

not sure if my answer was o.k

leaning engine is when you have less fuel more air going in the combustion chamber so engine will run hot since not enough oil, fuel going trough so when you hover heli will slowly loose power and land

Thank you very mauch for your advices. I'll try to do as you said and see what happens. Shoul I use 10% NM to do the adjustment instead of the 5% NM that I used last day?. Till now the engine worked ok with the 10% NM.

How can I check if the glow plug is still ok?. I have taken it out of the engine, connected directly to the starter and it seems to get incandescent normally. But I still have the doubt about why the engine stops when I take out the glow plug starter.

Greetings
