Normal Motor Life?

I have a OS50SXH and had some problems with the motor. At full throttle, the engine will loose rpm. I've tryed tunning it 1000 times without any succes and I'm beginning to think it's a faulty carb because I can see some wear in it and I checked the motor and the compression seems fine (comparing it with other airplane motors I have). What is the normal life or when do you know you have to get a new motor? Can you change a carb only or do you have to buy the entire motor?

Thanks in advance!

Motor Life

Hi,
Yes you can change the carbs in fact there is normaly a better carb available for all engines than the one that comes with it.
Heres one place I know of that can supply you with any carb for any engine.(Almost)
http://www.justengines.unseen.org/

They have an exellant support system and after care record.
Engine life though varies from months to years depending on how they are treated also what they are used for.
Is the engine in question used in a heli?
The reason I ask is sometimes the heli blades can pitch so far that they bog down the engine even if the engine is pristine.
a little less pitch at full throttle may help sort this out.

Hope this helps,
Regards
Daz.

yes, it's a heli engine. The problem is that at 50%, it sounds right and RPM's are normal but at 70%-100%, RPM's drop a lot! My ptich curve at full throttle is 100%-10?....this is normal so I think I got problems with the engine or the carb since the clutch is also new (normal).

engine!

Like I said try and drop the pitch by 2 at full throttle and see if this makes any difference.
The normal for the heli is to lift to hover at 50-60% throttle. to then expect the heli to go to full 10 degrees in the 40% throttle left is asking a lot.
This is where muscle pipes come into play? Do you have one of these fitted? They Help the engine push out more power than standard mufflers and this could possibly be a solution.

Mine used to bog down quite a lot and found that adding a tuned power pipe to mine though costing a fair bit did help enormously.
If you are already useing a power pipe then I would have to admit defeat and say I aint got a clue as to what the problem could be. Maybe trying the carb in this case would be a good way to go.

Anyway please let us know how it goes. I would like to know what solves this one.
Regards again,
Daz.

Daz, thanks. I bought 2 days ago a new OS50SXH (since mine was about 6 or 7 years old). Let me tell you that the problem was SOLVED! In fact, the problem was the engine, which I will install in a plane. My muffler is a OS MVP and it's working great! Thanks anyway for your advice.
