Canopy Painting

Alright, so I've taken all the right first steps... so far... kinda... sorta... Alright, so the only thing that I've done so far is to get me a cheap li'l airbrush, and sanded down the canopy to the point where if I sand one more time, it'll dissipate into nothingness (obviously, not literally, but bear with me and my neurotic nature). So, what would you guys recommend I do to get that perfect paint job? What materials will I need, what do I need to do, etc., and so on? I heard all this stuff about wet sanding... could you go in-depth about that? Thanks for your help!

Re: Canopy Painting

If the canopy is plastic you only need to remove the stickers (and residue left by them), and use a scotch brite pad to rough up the surface for painting. I'm not sure which grit you used to sand but you need to finish off with at least a 1500 grit using the wet sand method. HTH

Re: Canopy Painting

Once you have sanded it I would then wash it using washing up liquid, then rinse it and let it dry. This gets rid of sanding residue and grease.

I have used Tamiya acrylic paints as these can be thined with water. Do get some proper thiner as well so that you can clean the drush propperly after you have finnished.

Rubbing alcohol works great for this. Just make sure you dry it well afterwards and let it sit for a little bit before painting afterwards.
