Question Re: HELP: First Time Lift-Off Problem...

I also have a Walkera DragonFly. When I give throttle the heli moves to left. I tries adjusting the trims, and now some time it will go in circle. This is happening when te heli is on the ground. I about 10 tries I have not managed to lift off.

So what I am doing wrong .

I took mine to a hobby shop to have it checked, and the the owner was able to lift off, and move front and back.

Re: HELP: First Time Lift-Off Problem...

AnserS,

It's cleary pilot error I'm afraid to say. The left drift is a product of 'tail rotor drift' which effects the full size too. If you were on carpet it could not drift to the left whilst on the floor so it would try and tip over to the left as you increase throttle and it becomes weightless, to counter this you must give it right cyclic as you lift then once you get in the air you can release the right cyclic. You will still see the product of 'tail rotor drift' when the helicopter is hovering as it will hang right skid low.

Until you become more experienced it may be easier to push it firmly into the air just as it starts to drift left.

Re: HELP: First Time Lift-Off Problem...

Pilot Error : Thats is definite.
What do you mean by Right Cycle? Can you be more specific. You mean I should move the right stick to right?

Re: HELP: First Time Lift-Off Problem...

AnserS,

Right 'Cyclic' not 'Cycle' - Yes, move the right stick to the right.

A right roll (in forward flight) or right drift (whilst hovering) is initiated by moving the cyclic (right stick) to the right; a left turn (about the vertical axis) is initiated by moving the tail rotor control (left stick) to the left.

Fixed wing terminology tends to be adopted for helis but it's not really correct and can be confusing/misleading. Elevator is Fore/Aft cyclic (right stick forwards and backwards), Aileron is Left/Right cyclic (right stick left and right), Rudder is Tail (anti-torque) (left stick left and right), Throttle is Throttle on fixed pitch and Throttle/Collective on collective pitch (left stick forwards and backwards).

Good luck,

Re: HELP: First Time Lift-Off Problem...

Skeeter Pilot,

Well I thought I give an update. I tried a few times tonight. And my heli crashed. One leg of landing gear broke. But I was able to ligt off. But it was still going to left, and on the crash a little behind. Tomorrow... I will try glueing then landing gear, and give it another few try. But I am happy I was able to lift off.

Re: HELP: First Time Lift-Off Problem...

AnserS,

I think it's just a case of giving it more right until you leave the ground. If you are full over to the right with the right stick and it's still going left then set the trim for the left/right and fore/aft cyclic to central. Then check to see if the servo horns in the centre of their arc of travel (normally 90 degrees to the long side of the servo body) which they should be. Then make sure that the swash plate is sitting level in both planes, if it is not then lengthen or shorten the link from the servo horn until they are.

Send me a PM, it's easier via email to give you tips.

Skeeter Pilot.
