First stable hover

I recently got a walkera 22e in a trade for a car audio sub i had. I tried flying it a few times didn't really get anywhere, couldn't get it off the ground just wanted to spin on the spot. He told me this was a problem when we traded, i figured it was just his flying ability. after 2 unsuccesful batteries and no lift off i was kind disapointed. I started reading more about them and found out they need a bit more setting up. I did my best to set it up.

This trade was about a week ago now, so i figured today after all the setup i would try flying again. Let it get light on the skids a few times and just taxied it around the floor. Took about 2 batteries to start to feel ok with this, so i figured i would try to get it a bit lighter. Let it kinda bounce a few times and just tried to keep the tail straight. Another 2 batteries and i was maybe feeling a bit over confident but i wanted to see it hover. Charged it up and this was the one, i was going to have this thing in the air. Got it about 2 feet of the ground for a few seconds then kinda got a bit nervous and had a hard landing. The landing knocked the training gear loose. The loose leg of the gear bounced up and hit the main blades. I was not looking forward to going to see how many parts i broke. Straightened everything back out and all was good no broken parts. Got off lucky

Next battery back i finally got it in the air for most of the charge. I went through a couple more batteries and no i feel pretty confident holding the tail and hovering a couple feet off the ground in front of me. I feel i had a pretty good run at it today and wanted to share the good news.

Hi Shawn,

It is good to see you doing exactly what I recommend with the ground work and getting used to the heli before lifting.
A simulator is without doubt the better option but if you are going to go for it on the real heli you have gone about it the way that I have suggested time and again.

All I Can say is very well done fella, I wish you all the very best for future flights and will just urge you to take it steady. The urge to start doing more than your ready to do is massive in this hobby but it is really important to get the basics down before you move forward. It is these that will help you get out of trouble later.

Learning to fly from the ground is hard but when you actually get up and start to fly circuits you will probably find that a simulator will help you get familiar with the inputs quickly and help you progress faster. If you are as natural to the hobby as you sound, You may be thinking that you don't need a sim. This is fine;, (each to there own) But if you are flying circuits give yourself a lot of hight so that you give yourself a chance to recover should you need to.

thanks will do. I do have a sim FMS and a audio cord to attach the falcon 3d's tx, but as of yet can't seem to figure it out.

i have a falcon 3d and it hoves great..but don't break it cuz you'll be waiting forever for parts cuz they are usually out of stock

congrats on you hover keep using the sim they are great.
I realflight g3.5 and it has a hover orientation which is fun and it's also great training

yeah i have been playing with the falcon a bit more lately. This thing hovers great! I have the parts problem solved though, i just fly the 22e while the falcon is out for repairs. Parts for the 22e are local.

the best heli to lean on i think is the corona 120.its alittle heavy and slower to respond but it is so easy to hover on.i have a 400 raptor and a 450 exceed electric and they are very twitchie to learn on.they are also very light.i cant hover in the breeze with the 400 but the corona hovers .a great 1 st heli...my opinion. also has stronger parts than the smaller helis and a really forgiving when bounched around!!

congrats on the liftoff falcon.
I also have a 22e. Haven't been able to set it up just right yet. If you know of any links or suggestions on how you set yours up it would help me alot.
