| flying out of hover Couple of months ago, I was still flying with my training gear on my Caliber 30 untill a friend told me to take it off since I was hovering quite well. I took it off the next flying day. Oh boy, did I have my pants full of .... The heli was lighter and the just started flying around, didn't know what was happening. I got it under control, cause actually once it flies around with some speed, it is very much like flying a fixed wing. The thing was that I couldn't get it back into a hover in front of me with the tail facing towards me (like someone wrote b4 "your safe place"). After 5 minutes flying, I finally got into a hover just where I wanted it, landed it and landed myself into the grass of relief that I didn't crash. Since that day I feel more confident in flying my heli, It's like a switch that needs to be turned in your head. Don't know if any of you guys experience it the same way? many happy landings to all of you... greetings michel |

| As another newbie, I'm afraid I had an opposite experience. I'm hovering pretty well, but I had my first outdoor expedition (prior to that I was flying in the double garage with the overhead door closed) and ended up crashing. Seemed different flying outside. Flying higher and not having any borders around me was just too big of a step for my mind, I guess. I definitely know what you mean about the "safe place." Other than breeze, I guess I just have to tell myself that nothing is different - I can still control it. I fly the Heli-Max Axe CP. Axe Man ![]() |

| Re: flying out of hover Hi Axe Man, I can relate to what you experienced, I started out with an electric heli, dragonfly 4, I flew and hovered well in my garage, but the moment I went outside, crashed it over qnd over again. I have the impression that GP heli are more stable in hover and flight, but please, to all you really experienced guys, correct me if I'm wrong. Unfortunately I gave up electric for the moment (don't have the funds anymore), but I'm pretty sure that in the near future, I'll pick it up again. Anyway, I hope you continue with flying. |

| Re: flying out of hover Hi Helinovice, Yep, I think with helis, a lot of pilots have a day when it just clicks into place. One day its struggling to keep control of it, the next day the control is instinctive and it all seems easy. I can also understand what axeman is saying cos I learned to hover inside but when I got to try outside it all felt different. I think I got away with it because I was flying a new heli at the same time as going outside for the first time. Funny thing is now that I can fly outside, flying indoors feels scary and small. To try to answer your question about CP, I think it very much depends on the model and where you are flying it but in general Id say the answer is yes. If your flying one of the contra rotators (Blade CX) then they are incredibly stable indoors (probably more so than a CP heli) and can hover on their own. Outdoors they arent much good because every breath wind blows them around like a leaf. Outside CP is king because of the higher speed of the blades and the fact that the speed does not change much when the heli is climbing or descending gives them a massive advantage and allows easy compenstation for the wind. Take care..... Azzy

| Hi Aztek 1701, I've been reading your reply with a lot of interest, and I have to say I never flew a heli with contra-rotator, but I actually meant GP (gas-powered) helicopters. Probably they are much more stable due to the considerably "bigger" size than the electric helicopters, but I might be wrong, since like I mentioned before, the only thing I know a little of is how to fly those things I flew Dragonfly 4, Carboon 400 and now I'm continuing with my Caliber 30; I still have all my electronics from carboon 400, so I really will start again with the electric heli's. The problem was that I spend 100's of Euro (I'm European)on LiPo packs. A lack of knowledge on how to treat them nice flights to you all |

| Re: flying out of hover Ahh, GP is Gas powered. Lmao . I thought you meant CP and your finger slipped. GP isnt a contraction for engine powered helis that Ive come across before, "IC", "Nitro" or "Gas" would have got us talking about the same thing straight away lol. ![]() Have lots of fun with your calibre, Ive heard they are really nice machines. ![]() Take care...
