Talking It all came together today

so after going out for the morning shopping, i got back home to find that my parcels still hadnt arrived. then as i sat down my parentd gave me 3 parcels and i knew what they were straight away. first thought were yes its christmas 10months earlier !! then i thought oh no i havent put a model heli back together i thought. so i set about re-assembeling my little weapon and a short while later it was ready to make a real attempt at taking off. i had ordered a new battery as well as the spares so i put that on charge but i had my old battery charged so i installed that one. it didnt take off because its soo poor but i noticed that it was operating in reverse. Darren i have to thank you for all the advise because it helped me solve this problem straight away. i would still have been figuring out if you hadnt have helped me. the battery didnt lift the little weapon but it helped me set-up a couple of things.
the new battery had charged
what happened next i was tottally un-prepared!! so with all the pitch dials set to zero i slowly powered it up. WOW at full rpm it was absolutly goin balistic. it was soo fast , i just knew i would get my first hover. i stoped every thing and gave it a little pitch and started again , building the rpm's up slowly.
IT TOOK OFF
I was soo happy but i landed it because i was scared . i set off again and tried some stick in put with some great results
I GOT A 5-7 SECOND HOVER
iam still smiling now but while i was flying it was hard to keep it level while trying to put a bit of tail rotor stick in to turn it around a little bit altough i managed it, i found it difficult but still YAY iam up and running
i was having second thoughts about this heli business but am tottally hooked
my new powerfull battery should be ready in 10minutes soo iam getting excited
ill let you all know how things go
thanks everyone who has helped me
Ashley

Re: It all came together today

Sounds good....its magic when you get to do those first flights....but do make sure that you have a good source for spare parts...becuase you will need them from time to time.

The trick is, is to take things easy...take your time and be patient...always inspect your heli before and after flight....this way you will buld up some good habits...because should you choose to get a bigger heli then the safety factor will increase.
Keep posting and let everyone know how you are gettin on.

Unhappy Re: It all came together today

OH NO !!!!
practising hovering in my garden has a little tight for space but am getting better now i have made some training skids (i will get some pics) i have had some really good hovers but am really stuck for space.
there is a nice car park near where i live which is just 1 min walk away so i decided to put my new ni-mh battery on charge while i have my tea. it was dark now but it didnt matter because there was quite alot of street light on the area i had planned to fly on.
i got my gear together and set off. i got to the spot and prepared my little weapon for my first open space hover. it was great to try hover in an open space because i could give it a little more heightthan before so it was a little more stable. i was hovering about a meter off the ground which is alot better than 10cm as before. it was a little windy and was grabing my weopen and pushing about abit but i managed. i tried some tail rotor movement and iam getting better

then

this is when mr wind gave the weapon a big push towards the wall and i paniced. it was a meter off the ground and i just shut the throttle off.
it dropped and then the main rotor chomped into the tail rotor which took a chunk out of the main rotors, bent the stabalising rods and broke the fin suppport they attach to. dam dam dam
what an ***** iam
i already had some blades on order just in case but iam goin to have to get the fin and tail support. shouldnt be too much
but i think i have leant alot from the last 2-3 days of flying
getting there

Re: It all came together today

Exellant stuff,

Whilst I am sorry to here that this ended in an accident I am happy that you are now seeing the better side to the hobby. As has been said before, Take it steady. The most important thing to learn now is self restraint, I know the burning desire to go and fly is there I still get it now. BUT to fly and crash is a waste of time and when you get good flying weather for the days your grounded it is really hard to live with.

If it is windy or gusty then wait till the evening and the wind will usually die away. This is what I do if hovering about. It is far better to have a heli ready to go when the weather is good. Instead of going out to fly in weather that is not ideal and it costing you in parts and dented confidence.

Anyway, Well done for the flying part. Hope that your up and beating the air into submission again soon.

oh and your most welcome by the way, Anytime.
