Question Drifting around

Hiya guys,
Coaxial heli, Blade cx to be exact, had a lot off spills, got everything changed out 'cept servos. New shafts, motors, 4-n-1, lowerhead, batteries work ok.
Got the servos arms as close to 90 degrees to their corrospnding pushrod as I can get, swash is flat, blades good. The only prob I can see is the top of the shaft seems to vibrate/wobble a little bit thru all speeds, and I dont think the top blades are in track, but...I have done all I can, it is in the best position.
Now what happens is...Spin up is fine, take off is fine, about 5-6 feet for a few secs it hovers nicely, then....it slowly start going in widening right circles, with the nose still straight, or as straight as I can make it, it still wants to slowly turn to the right until I stop it with left rudder, already did the adjusting on the 4n1, trim alla way left. Don't see that causing the heli to float around in right hand circles with the nose still facing straight ahead, nose in or tail in, it does it, cannot make it stop to land or keep any kind of stable hover. it will fly where you want it but when you stop to hover, it just acts like it drank too much firewater, Maybe the brand new shafts are bent?? or the servos are going bad??? Just wondering cuz it is about to hit the big heli farm in the sky, it had taught me what I need to know, just kinda disappointing though, we grew up together..*sob*..
Thx if you got any ideas guys,
Blue

Re: Drifting around

Hi Blue,

I might be wrong in this but I think your heli is fine. My B47 twister does it too if its in a small space and you dont compensate for it. Its a sort of pendulum effect. I dont know the exact reason but I think it has a lot to do with the heli being forced to eat its own turbulence and the torque of the rotors. (yes I know its contra rotating and therefore self canceling but there are bound to be small differences between the 2 rotors).

If the rotor heads are the same as mine (I think they are, there is no scope for adjusting the blade tracking because the blades are locked together with screws. If its happening in a small space try to have a fly in a larger area (sports hall would be ideal or outside if the day is CALM) and see if the problem goes away, I bet it does. What you need to do is to anticipate the effect and compensate for it, this will cancel the effect and your hover will be solid.

Hope this helps .... Azzy

Re: Drifting around

Hiya guys,
Thx for the replys!!!
It is a "pendelum" effect, very good, I didn't think of that word last night.
Ya'll stick around now ya hear!! I am about to break out a real heli and get it set up, time to begin all over again, but this time it is gonna be twice the fun.
Be good and have fun,
Blue

Re: Drifting around

Hiya Azzy,
Oh ya, the heli bug has bit, for sure!
Seeing what kind of helis you got I am a tad embarrased to say what I am getting, but not too bad I reckon, here ya go:
http://www.xheli.com/dr39elrcrare.html
I am not supposed to know what I am getting, BTW.
I am hoping it will be a decent trainer, the only bad part is that it will be a pain getting parts when I break 'em, will have to wait for 'em.
I am going to use RADD's School, so hopefully I won't have too many breaks to wait on. Gonna have to get a few batteries also.
With the Blade CX I have learned tail-in, side-in, and nose-in. forward flight, backward flight and sideways flight.
So, hopefully with all you great guys here I will be able to get the next stage of heli flight down as well. I gotta admit, for real now, you guys have helped me alot!!
It is going to be a whole different world now with a ccpm heli, and I will need all the help I can get.
I will be starting to eyeball it and set it up by 0900 hrs Monday morning!!
So, between now and then any advice will be greatly appreciated and used!
Be good and have fun,
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Blue

Re: Drifting around

Hey Blue,

Sok m8, the bug has just been biting me for longer lmao.

That looks cool. Im sure you'll have lotsa fun with it. Just a couple of small things that might help.

1.. When you first spin the beast up the rotor speed will seem really high compared to the blade.... It is and its a bit intimidating at first (however its nuffin compared to standing next to a 4.5 foot rotor nitro gettin up to speed.. I still get a quick adrenaline rush lol)
2.. Partly because of 1, things will happen much faster with it
3.. Whereas your BCX tries to hover naturally your new heli wont. Once she starts going in a direction she wont go back into the hover unless you make her by pulling back slightly on the stick.
4.. The new bird will feel very twitchy at first. Keep your controls small cos she'll respond MUCH faster.
5.. The tail can be fun to set up on small electrics. Check back with us if you get problems.

6.. Most importantly... Enjoy it we are expecting a report on here ASAP after 26th

Happy Christmas m8....

Azzy

Re: Drifting around

Hiya Azzy!
OMG!! 4.5 foot rotor span!!!!!!!!!!!! where are my Depends??
Man,... one day M8, one day.
Thank you so much for the info also...I need alla help I can get, I know there are alot of things I need to do b4 I even plug in the Battery, Ummm, what? lessee,
1. check all the bolts and screws, do you think I should "Loctite" them first? and which loctite is best? the blue?
2. I think I understand how tight the Main Rotor baldes should be in their holders, just tight enough to where you can just sorta move them?? what about the tail blades? same?
3. I should readjust the servos arms to where they are 90 degrees to their corresponding linkages? But you need to use the radio for that also??
4. And the "pitch", I understand that you can adjust the pitch so the heli is a little softer in response, a little "user friendly"???? I have a pitch gauge, does it look any good? I was Totally noob when i got it, it is made by Century. oh, and how do I use it?? /*clears throat*...
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...r/DSCF2714.jpg
lol, well Azzy, you asked for it...
Don't worry, I won't drive you crazy, I am going to read all Soneebee has to say also, he is like the Walkera king.
Like I say, I am also going to use RADD's flight lessons also. But first, i need to get it SET-UP as best I can.
My God, if I can get to fly a helicopter like you fly,...umm, well, I dunno know what I will do,.... buy an extra case of Depends???

See ya around m8, ( I love the way ya'll say that)
