Question BCX BOUNCE and SPIN!!!???

Hiya guys,....
It is a bad day for me, I shoulda known things were looking too good. Here is the story and I hope ya'll can help!!
Took it ouside last night, very calm weather, cool temp. Started flying, not doing too bad, basically things were normal, went thru one battery, stopped, let it cool down for a few, put in 2nd battery, took off, flew around a little bit, started going too high...just clipped a small tree branch.."drat!" says I...Heli came tumbling down, landed kinda nose/right side down..NO damage!! "Yaaahh"! says I...Looked it over, seemed ok, put it down, turned on Tx, plugged in the Heli, gave it power and instead of taking off it just starts to jump up and down in little hops, bout 1-2 inches, rapidly...plus spinning to the left, not a real fast spin but fast enough. Put in spare 4-n-1, no difference, and that is all the spare stuff I have. Before I go buy a replacement for everything on the heli, which is not going to make me happy ..at all!..I was hoping ya'll might be able to help me out and so reduce the cost! Does this sound familiar to anybody????? And NO, the LHS is not going to be able to help me out. They just know cars.
I posted this in E-flite section, but..I really need some help, I cannot fly anymore now so it is very important to me to fix this, And ya'll have been good in answering and helping me so I came back here to seek advice. Both rotors do spin, affirmative, the main gears have all their teeth, which is more than I can say for myself, lol..*cough*, I cannot see anything wrong, course I really do not know what to look for.
*sob*, have fun...*/cry*...flying your helis...*/sniff*... lol

One or both of the motors might be no good....hot motors plus a severe enough impact might upset things....could be a broken brush within the motors.....thats the only thing I can think of.

Turn on the heli and all that, now with the throttle all the way down give it left rudder, make sure that one of the blades starts turning, then give it right rudder, and make sure the other blade starts turning. Next thing to check, make sure the set screws that hold the shaft onto the gears are tight, and on the flat spots. Theres something else on the lower rotor head, but I cant think of it right now. Im just listing things my lhs manager checked on mine when it wouldnt take off. Ill list some more things if I think of them, might not be tonight, but should be soon.

Re: BCX BOUNCE and SPIN!!!???

Hiya guys!!
Thanks so much for answering!
Ok, I just tried the different motor thing you mentioned John, I hooked it up and put the rudder control full left, gave it throttle and the bottom blades spin up good, put the rudder control alla way right and the upper blades spin up good.
Put the heli on a smooth flat surface, the coffee table, gave it full throttle and it just kinda spins around in a left hand circle, on the table, will NOT lift, at all!!! Moved the rudder trim alla way right, same thing, made no difference. Doesn't bounce like it did last night for some reason..?
*sigh*
From what I read about others learning on their BCXs' on the forums and from my experience on the Sim, sometimes I think I have a bad BCX....
Well, looks like I am grounded for a bit, wrong time of year to be buying a buncha replacement parts, Christmas ya know.
Be good guys, If I get to fly again I will be on to talk to ya, ya'll have been good people.

I dont think you do, mine did the same exact thing after a 15ft fall. It was just a few mechanical errors. Still trying to remember everything else, but the main fact is, the inner shaft is slipping someplace. This is causing the upper blades to not spin fast enough, which causes both the lack of lift, and the slow spinning.

Re: BCX BOUNCE and SPIN!!!???

Hiya guys,

I got it to fly again!!!
Started messing with the shaft like you advised, there is/must be something wrong with it as I could not pull out the inner shaft, no matter how hard I tried, haven't used pliers yet...but...did notice that there were some scrape marks on the outer shaft right above the lower hub, looked like that the outer shaft had been pushed or recoiled about an inch up, sooo....pushed it back down to where the scrape marks ends and put it all back together again, and guess what? you got it, it flew!!!
it might not be in the original factory position because I had to adjust the pushrods to get the swashplate lvl again but...it seems to do great, like I said, there is something wrong with the inner or outer shaft, I cannot remove the inner shaft and when I wind it up it makes a tiny knocking sound that coincides with the speed of the rotors, undoubtedly one of the shafts or both are bent just a bit...I guess.. I don't know what the problem was that it would not fly as I don't know very much about the mechanics of it, I don't know why pushing the outer shaft down an bit makes it fly again but it does.
Anyway, just wanted to say thx guys for helping me out, I am flying again, all that counts.
Be good and have fun,
Blue

Re: BCX BOUNCE and SPIN!!!???

Hmmm when I had a CX do this its cause the Shaft for one of the blades was not tight only allowing one motor to spin...

Be Glad it was a CX that came streight down, had that been my HB King your talking about 100$ in damage AT LEAST if not more.

I tipped it over from 2 inches, had to replace blades, main shaft, feathering shaft.

LOL,,,Gotta love them helis!

Re: BCX BOUNCE and SPIN!!!???

Hiya HB,
Thx for answering.
Everything is fine now, by this time I have replaced everything except the servos in order to fix various things on it, it does just fine, the only things that happen now that I personally don't like is that the tail slowly rotates to the right so I always have to be on watch for that but I understand a true heli does that anyway so it is good practice if nothing else. The only other thing is... I can make it hover in one spot real good but movement in any direction kinda makes it start to drift/float around in a circle, nose facing the same direction but just kinda...floating...in a weird way, Like a pendelum! I can counteract this but movement will make it do it again, it just makes it hard to hover to land in a certain spot, oh well, hard to explain, I am going to make a little movie and post it to see what ppl think, might be nothing, just haven't seen it on other home movies of ppl's helis flying around their house. Theirs seems to do nice, hover then move from one end of the room to the other or from one room to another in a steady line, I can move good but as soon as I stop to try to hover it kinda wants to do a pendelum kind of thing.
Ya'll be good and have fun,
Blue
