It flies! First full battery hover [li-po]

So I finally got the bird up and flying tonight. I charged the li-po for about 55 minutes and gave it a go. She flew beautifully with a small vibration that didnt bother me. Now here is my question....

I have a 36 with a brushless and lipo...

When I spin up the blades the tails violently pulls to the right then after so many rpms and its close to hovering it pulls to the left... Why is that?

Re: It flies! First full battery hover [li-po]

Hi there,

Well done on getting it flying, scary feeling when you first get them off the ground innit?

The violent pull to the right is probably down to the inital torque from the blades starting from 0 to about 600-700 Rpm there is no counter torque available from the tail rotor (its not generating any useful thrust) so the heli is relying on its grip with the ground through the skids to stay straight. This is REALLY noticable if your on training gear as these reduce the grip the skids have on the ground. After that point if it pulls the other way its very likely down to 1 of 2 things, 1, there is too much pitch on the tail at centre (3 or 4 degrees is needed), you can only get this right through trial and error.. IE, fly the heli with the head hold off (if you have one) and find out how much rudder you need to keep it straight.. keep adjusting it until doesnt try to turn when the stick is centred and the head hold is off. Or the gyro / tail linkage is wrong. On a micro such as the walkera 36, t-rex ect, the tail setup is critical and needs to be very free. If the tail movement of the tail servo is obstructed in any way, you will get problems with the tail. Check your tail linkages at both servo and tail rotor ends and make sure they are free moving and theres no tightness through the movement range of the tail pitch slider.

Hope this helps... Azzy

Yeah I got to thinking last night, the brushless start up is less than smooth, its either 0 or 300 rpm... so that torque is whats doing it. And after that I dont have the tail setup to completely counteract the gyro affect the heli's are plagued with. I have it set so if I want the tail to swing left I simply get off the stick and return to center. To swing the tail right I have to actually move the stick.

Im charging the lipo right now so hopefully I can get this figured out. Thanks for the response.
