6ft hover

After way too much time on G3 due to bad weather I finally managed to get my HoneyBee out into the garden last night. Feeling very nervous as any prang couldn't be fixed by a simple "press the red button to reset" I started out with lots of little hops (about 1 foot up and then down), replacing the Bee on its takeoff spot each time.

Finally, fed up with not getting anywhere, I decided to grit my teeth and be a little more decisive. After all, it's a well known fact that helis hover better out of ground effect!! So this time I applied more throttle and up she went. A quick manic back and forth as I tried to get control, as well as remembering to get the tail backwards, I finally had total control in a 6ft hover. Fantastic. Then things went a bit pear shaped with the Bee vering left and right. In a panic to get back to terra firma I dumped the throttle too quickly and hit the ground a little too hard, snapping the little vertical boom that the tail fin attaches to. (A £4 replacement)

So, a decent maiden flight but I won't be buying that TRex for a while. The thought of all that money flying around waiting for me to crash it fills me with dread!!

Re: 6ft hover

Well done for managing to keep it stable for a while . It sounds as like you didnt come off too badly though. Good first go.

The veering to the left and right you experienced sounds like the pendulum effect that I used to suffer from. Its cos your over compensating for the last swing (easy done). Its a bit different to driving a sim though innit?, a lot more scary and fun when its real.

Try to remember, if you feel like your loosing control to keep working until you either regain it or it hits the ground... Easier said than done but will save you money in the long term lol.

BTW, you'll be flying a trex before you know it, the fear of crashing all that money fades quickly when your flying it only to be replaced by the buzz of managing to control the feisty beast. Also the Trex is a CHEAP heli compared o the bigger ones that you'll be getting once the bug bites fully lol.

Well done and good luck with the next flight...

Thumbs up Re: 6ft hover

Great news and credit to John at BuzzFlyer. The snapped tail-fin boom won't cost a penny - he's a greed to ship on to me FOC. Now all I have to do is drill out the old and glue in the new.

OK, so the boom wasn't exactly mega bucks but this kind of service makes me think that when I upgrade I'll be getting the new one from BuzzFlyer. The Honey Bee Cool or King look preferable to a TRex now.
