im hooked!!

Ok..well im a completely new to this. I've been into rc cars and planes for a while. I got in a freak accident at work and have been BORED at home so I bought a Blade CX. Nothing special but it is damn fun to me. I know they are easy to hover but I am just tryin to learn how helis handle. I said I was just gonna get the CX to fart around with but now I have questions. What is the next Heli I should get that I can learn everything on when the time comes? And recommendations on nitro and electric is fine. But now I see why u guys are into these things. They are amazing little machines and I will be doing this for sometime to come. Have fun you all and fly safe!!

Re: im hooked!!

Hi there,

Welcome to the forum.

Yeah the blade is a good heli to start on because its pretty stable and you can fly it in the house without too many problems.

As far as the next heli goes well I guess that depends how hooked you are lol. Generally the bigger they are, the more stable they are but the more they cost to fix and run. Nitros are good to learn on because they are bigger (Raptor 30/50, Sceadu 30/50) but you will need a LOT of space to operate one as well as a fair ammount of support gear (starter, batteries, glow wand ect). With electrics at the moment the cost of the batteries is the limiting factor with the bigger electrics needing very expensive batteries and chargers (I think this will change in time with the T-Rex 600 though) so your best bet is a smaller electric (T-Rex 450xl , Zoom 400 ect) which will cost less but also be more twitchy.

The one thing I would say is that whatever you go for, you need to think about being in a club / group of flyers because although it is possible to learn on your own, setting up a heli isnt the easiest thing to do when you are learning. Somebody told me this flying a heli is like balancing a steel ball on a sheet of glass, if the heli is well set up then the glass is flat, if not then the glass is convex.

Hope this helps, let us know what you choose to go for, and ask if theres anything you want to know.

Take Care.... Azzy

Re: im hooked!!

Thanks for the info. I heard the Raptor was a good heli. When I go back to work and get regular pay and not workmans comp then I'll look into it..lol. I also heard I should look into a Simulator. I've heard good things about the G3 so I think I am gonna get that one unless someone recommends different. For the time being I'll keep practicing with the CX until its second nature and am used to coming back towards me. I have 2 batteries and fly it pretty much from the time I wake up till I go to sleep. Last night the wind was non-existent so i took it outside and that was a blast!! Thanks again!!

pointblank
g-3 or reflex xtr=awesome. great to have
blade cx =good stick training
i really say get a cp model one of the cheaper versions cause no nitro flies like the blade cx
the shogun or walkera 35 and 36's are cheap ways to learn cp and learn it well
these models mimic 1 motor gyro flight.
full capeable 3d manuvers and is a real blast to have

Re: im hooked!!

yea i just got the CX so I can learn the basics but I'd really like a Nitro at some point. At least when I get one I'll know how the controls work and wont do the "panic-like" corrections that make people over control and crash. Plus coming from a fixed wing and car background I've always liked the smell, sound, and power of these little engines. Also if anyone knows of someone sellin a sim that they don't need anymore lemme know. Thanks for readin my posts and givin me ur input!

Re: im hooked!!

The cx is a varry fun heli. keep it always as you will still have fun with it. As for next heli. for nitro the formentiond ones are great choises. for electrick I have come to the standpoint of building a kit from the ground up is best. Trex or mx400/x400 ark (same heli one is us importer other is euro) or go to a larger electric like the eco 8/16, logo 10, and i have read that the quick of japan ep8 is a good heli. Walkeras are low price and fly good for the price but for the extra price you will be better off with the trex or x400 as they are stable and have a great 3d flight posibility. the blade cp is a good but twitchy little heli that comes rtf like the cx. mostly it comes down to your walet and what you like (yes looks are a part of being happy with your heli)
