Smile Fresh out of box then Fresh into the ground

Since I am a beginner I bought a Blade Cx. Not really knowing anything about the different brands or what it takes to fly even the smallest of heli. I took the Cx out of the box and looked it over, read the instructions all the way through(I thought I did any how). Went to work that night without having flown it yet. The excitement was with me all night which caused the work hours to creep by.

Finally work was over I raced home and put the battery on charge. After about 1.5 hours the battery was chared and I was ready to go. I figured I would start out with getting use to the controls and maybe even get it off the ground. Using my kitchen as my testing grounds tho proved to be a bit too close for comfort. I decided to take the CX into my garage since it has more room and less to run into.

I start to get up from my chair and think oh I better shut off this control before I move or I might hit the throttle. I missed the section in the instructions that said never turn off the control without unhooking the battery in the heli first. As soon as I hit the switch off the CX went nuts, going up and down and spinning around then left into the table. Bits of blade went in every direction. I sat there looking at it thinking that didnt just happen.

What now I thought, I will have to wait 10 hours before the local hobby store opens to buy new blades. I picked up some electrical tape and put the blades back together. To my surprise it worked and I flew around my garage the rest of the night.

The cx is a fun little beasty. I hope you got the training gear. I still got mine and fly it, even with the other more powerfull helis sitting here. some times its nice to just go nice and easy without so much thumb thinking. have fun with it. oh ya get that aluminum top head and the new alumi lower head and you will find a nice bliss.

One of the two motors that came with the CX already burned up. Is this something I did (crashing and not shutting throttle down in time) or is it a brand problem.

got to www.helihobby.com or www.helidirect.com get the heatsink for the blade cx (it is different then all other heatsinks and fits both motors) the aluminum top hub and aluminum bottom hub as the plastic ones breake easy. and get spare blades and shafts after that maybe a second battery. and that will have you set fairly well. the cx is a stable heli. other then that visit radds school of rotory flight then with that cx you will be flying in no time.

Yes unwritten7

Just before impact (crash) kill the throttle. it usually helps with the electronics. ive burned tail motors easily not turning off the throttle. when you get to the crash site unplug the battery. also mark the spot you crashed because you will probably be looking for a piece that is missing later.

Thanks for the links and info. Will replacing the plastic parts with aluminum make the CX weigh more and drain the battery faster?

Re: Fresh out of box then Fresh into the ground

No you will still good flight times. The slight differance in weight is not even noticeable. and the price is verry low. the heatsink on the motors will buy you more flight time. I bought a second heatsink and used a drimal to remove a small amount of aluminum to make it fit below the first heatsink. If you do this, make sure you do not cover the vent hols on the motors.
I have flown my cx at 35ft so you can get good hight out of it. be varry cuatous flying it outside as the smallist fart of a wind will effect flight. but most of all just have fun with it, remember crash repair on that heli is cheep. I crashed from full hieght and only suffered $12.99 in crash repair.
have fun and happy flying.

Re: Fresh out of box then Fresh into the ground

How much does the heat sink help that much? I asked for one at my lhs but I was told it would be a waste of money because I will not need it.
