| Re: first flight Hey folks!
Great posts! I am still spending a lot of time hovering with my TREX 450 as well. I tried to do some real flight the day after getting it all set up and things didn't pan out so well...spent the rest of the day on repairs!
Though I am fairly new to the hobby and can tell you what has helped me...
I spend a lot of time with my BCX2. The coaxial heli is quite easy to fly (after a few training days) and I can spend a lot of time practicing on getting my bearing in tail-in/nose-in/45 degrees/etc...and not have to worry too much about mainting the altitude/hover/and all that stuff. It just lets me get oriented with the location and bearing of the heli.
The familiarization with the movements, heading, etc...of the BCX2 (or any other simple heli) translate to the movements of a more advanced bird. So now I can concentrate on the controls without freaking out about the heading of the bigger heli.
Also, there has been a lot of talk about the money it costs to maintain the heli. I was spending a lot more until I get a simulator. I got the RealFlight G4 and have spent MANY frustrating hours honing my skills but it has made me better. I recommend that everyone who is serious about the hobby invest in a sim and spend some good quality time practicing. It has helped me immensely and I know it has saved me some bucks!
Oh yeah, if you have a local hobby shop that has some RC heli experts try spending some time at the shop and picking their brain. That has really helped me with the setup of my heli, the settings on the Tx, repair procedures, and things along those lines.
Anyway, that's my two cents!
Cheers!
