Angry Hot scale helicopters

Does anyone out there have any advice on cooling for a scale helicopter.I fly an Airwolf fuselage(glass fibre)with Shuttle 30 mechs,Thunder Tiger 39 motor. When flying from cold the motor is fine and climbs with plenty of power. When the engine gets hotter the Heli will barely hover until i stop and let it cool, the hotter the day the sooner the problems occur.I am assuming this is over heating .Has anyone any experience of this with scale and how to overcome it.

Re: Hot scale helicopters

I would try adjusting the mixture setting...try setting it a bit richer.

Angry Re: Hot scale helicopters

Hi,thanks for the response.I did think that this might be the problem but made the problem worse if anything, weakening the mixture actually improved performance along with reducing pitch down to a max of 5or 6 degrees.but even juggling these it still runs hot.the gearing is standard shuttle so i would have thought good enough with a 39.I wonder if it it just inadequate airflow.Has me stumped at the moment.Never had any problems with pod and boom helis.Regards Mike Shaw.

Re: Hot scale helicopters

Is it a helicopter engine or is it a airplane engine? If airplane engine that might be why. Other then that maybe your fan or maybe you have to much incloser. Also I would check your engine bolts and engine head bolts see if something is lose. But first maybe check your fuel line maybe it has a pin hole in it or clogged hope that helps?

Re: Hot scale helicopters

Hi there how much nitro are you using, if less than 20% try that if you are using 20 go to 30% and richen the engine up. you will have to drop the revs on your tx, as using more nitro not only will keep it cold but gives it more power. its not cheep but you will have scale nitro hellies if you want scale with not too much 3d get a petrol one bigger and no heat problems, and the fuel is cheep as well. hope this helps

Re: Hot scale helicopters

i did what the manual said but i did read in a uk forum to have the main needle three turns out. i found that the settings changed when you change the nitro content. i started with 30% but now use 20% i looked at the smoke and at hover speed tuned the pump reg. needle more open bit by bit flight by flight till i got more power and still kept some smoke. now the power is great and i am slowly setting the max pitch lesser from -*12 to -*10 . i just dont need the pitch because the power is so much.the speed in forward flight is great too i beat most of the planes in my club. the sport planes i can fly past, go up into a 540 stall turn come back down and they are just going past, i can then fly past them and still have time for a roll and a 540 stall the other end before they catch up. i love it
